Default 2018 Navigation Map Update available

I purchased the 2018 Nav update "pack" from SunCoast for my 2011 Panamera. Took it to Porsche Birmingham, once they hooked up the PIWIS and entered the activation key it called for the new Nav map discs (which they didn't have so they ordered them for their shop). The only discs in the "pack" are to update the PCM which "enables" (tricky legal wording) the update. The dealer won't charge me for the maps since they will keep them for future updates. Will charge me $159 when they come in to do the update. Update key "pack" was $255 from SunCoast.

d it will take several hours. I'll re-post when I have a successful update.

Let me get this straight. You bought the key from Suncoast but it didn't include the actual maps?

Correct. I'm sure it's to keep revenue directed to dealerships. Actually there is no need to own the map discs, since once the maps are installed your done.

Ok I am looking to get an update for my 2012. Should I just go to the dealer or order key separately like you did?

It mostly comes down to price. I'm guessing Suncoast key is maybe $75-$100 less than dealer. I'm guessing most dealerships will have to order a 2018 key for owners vs having a bunch in stock (and also order the maps for the update and their shops when they realize they're not part of the key discs). My 2004 Toyota Sienna is so easy...buy one disc, load it and done. No skunk works, hidden fees, or dealership ignorance. Clearly Porsche Connect is a means to get past this sneaker-net methodology. Regardless, I love my 970...

Please can you update this thread when you've had the update installed as then I'll know to book my appointment with Porsche Burlingame.

Yep. I just had two software updates done on my car (the brake indicator recall and the power steering recall) and the Service Advisor said that each update would take about two hours. I imagine that the map updates would be even longer.

The map update was successful. Took 3+ hours but they gave me a loaner Macan so went with wife window shopping and breakfast. The image shows the installation history from pressing 'source' and 'info' at the same time. There are POIs now that were not present before.

That's great, if you don't mind me asking, how much did they charge you given that you got the license key from Suncoast (was it what you expected from your 1st post) and did they give you the map disk or do they still have it?
Thanks
Ian

Cost was $159. The dealer keeps the map discs (no reason for me to pay for them/keep them) to use on other upgrades.
