Buy a 2016 Panamera 4S or 2017 Panamera
All,
I don't want to spend more than about $75K. Looks like I could buy a used 2016 4S or a used 2017 Panamera base model for about that. I would love the improved performance that would come with the 4S. Any thoughts? Is it worth it to go to the new model even though I can't afford the model I would like? I do like the new lines better. Trading in our leased M235i in a couple months and need to make a decision. Done with BMW's.
Thanks for your thoughts.

You won't like my response, but I'd say to really try for a 2017 4S. It's worth either paying a little more or waiting. The new platform is a lot better and at the same time the base seemed too slow for me (but to each their own).

I think it's important to be honest with yourself about your preferences and priorities. Beyond the differences in body style, the interior/tech is pretty different between the two model years as well. And how well optioned is that 2017 base? If it has Sport Chrono, PSE, that kind of thing, it may provide enough of the performance joy you're looking for.
Another option - use Swapalease.com or the like to drive something else for 6-12 months while you wait for used 2017 prices to come down further. A 2017 4S might fall into your price range before you know it...

I was in a very similar boat recently, and I opted for a 2016 CPO 4S with just under 10k miles. It had the options I wanted, and the price was right. Though I like the changes that the 2017 model year brought, I wanted the performance of the 4S. The 2017 base just didn't have what I was looking for in that regard.
I contemplated going above my initial budget to reach into the 2017s (4S or even an e-Hybrid), but decided to stay grounded and go with the 2016. I'm sure I'll be back at the well in a few years for a 2017 or newer.
