971 Window tint
#16
hey guys I just got my 2018 panamera 4s. I looking to get it paint corrected and xpel film the front clip. The shop also has window tinting as a option. I spoke with them and they said that it a problem with the design of the panamera and nothing can be done about it. They said to just keep the trim at the window clean. I then called a Porshe dealer near me and ask if they had a tint guy. They directed me to a place. I called that place and they said they have never had a problem with the window tint scratching on a panamera. They claim that they have done many of them. I see in this post some ppl have no problems while others don't. I'm still in the dark about what works and what doesn't. Is it mainly the thicker glass cars or it any of them. 970 or 971 confused

I have a 970 which definitely is prone to scratching as others have commented. The installer removed door panels and installed felt liner. Zero scratches even with the more delicate 3m film. I would imagine you’d have the same result with the 971 as long as you follow the same process.

I took mine to a dealer-trained installer in Southern CA. The price was higher than normal cars because all the door panels had to come off for a proper installation. I think if your tint shop is trying to install without removing the door panels, it will never come out correct -- and may be prone to scratches.

I purchased a 2018 CPO that had tinted windows. The front seat windows had vertical scratches. I asked the dealer to repair and they refused. It was aftermarket tint so not covered. Took it to my installer and he told me he would not do it. No way could any tint be installed on the Porsche because of the tight dust seals.

I had it done on my 2014-4s, installer told me the door panels needed to be removed. It was expensive but didnt get scratched. Had the Porsche dealer do my 971T along with full front PPF and 3 years the tint has some scratches. Not bad enough for me to replace it but obviously the dealer didnt use a guy that removed the panels.

Had my 18 Turbo ST done as soon as I got it this past summer. Have one minor stripe in the driver's window already. If it continues I'll just get it redone every year or two, it doesn't cost that much to get one or two windows redone.

The Porsche dealer installed before I picked the car (22’ GTS ST) up. The price for tint and the dealer warranty sealed the deal for me.
The tint is only 6 months old and no signs of issues. If something does occur, the dealer will have to replace.
