I HATE AUTO STOP
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH …. I HATE the AUTO STOP function! I am so sick of hearing PORSCHE people tell me that it is a government requirement that it default to ON and can't be permanently over ridden when my 2017 BMW 650 can be over ridden.... when you turn off the AUTO STOP it STAYS OFF for all future starts. It makes no sense to put such a feature on a high performance car. I realize that it is off in SPORT & SPORT+ modes but it doesn't make any sense to me to drive around routinely in those modes. I have resolved myself to just set the INDIVIDUAL mode to OFF with my other settings and move on. Even the high performance modification dealers don't have a bypass. OH well...…..

one advantage of the older Pans, default is OFF not on :-)

Leave auto start to ON, and you will end up replacing started sooner, much sooner. Even with Porsche saying they engineered starter to account for auto stop/start.
I call a bit bs on that one. Mine is off too.

Are you referring to the new generation of Panameras? I dont have this problem on my 2014, it's actually set by default to off but is there as an option.
At least it's not like some of the other brand vehicles with the rougher engine starts. Test drove a newer BMW with it defaulted to on and it would rattle the entire car everytime I would take off from a light. We have it good with Porsche tbh.

On my 2012 if you turn it off, it stays off until you turn it back on regardless of if the car is parked and the ignition turned off. Seems simple to me. It saves 2-3 mpg in town and in traffic. It doesn't bother me.

I like the concept of it- I know if I'm at a 2 - 3 minute idle waiting for the light to change it would be good to cut the engine off. But the Porsche system just doesn't seem to work too well. It can turn the engine off too soon (like at stop signs) and not at all under other circumstances. And even when it cuts out appropriately, it restarts too soon because of the A/C being on. So after trying for a couple months- its staying off.

Took delivery of my 2015 Panamera GTS over the weekend and it stays in the off mode. As a matter of fact, it was delivered in the off mode and I have not touched it. I find the feature very annoying.

Im glad that in my 2012 that the default is whatever you leave the button on!
I've noticed its a little flaky sometimes when parking. Sometimes the auto shut off turns off the car and puts on the brake before you turn off the key. Sometimes you have to turn it off and back on again....to turn the car off lol!!

Anybody know how to turn auto stop off on a 2016 e-hybrid? the owner's manual that came with the car provides a nice illustration of how to simply push a button (~ @) on the center console, however my hybrid doesn't have that button. i'm guessing that Porsche has either removed the on/off feature on the hybrid, or has hidden it within the PCM somewhere.
When i'm driving electric, i would rather not have ice come on and vice-versa. When driving in sport, etc., the auto stop is still in play once the engine warms up.... For reasons mentioned, i'd rather turn it off at various times if possible.
Thanks for any ideas

after further research, pretty sure now there is no ability to turn this off in the hybrid.
on another note, i did find this on another site, which is interesting and great if true. Can anyone confirm if this is true?
W/r to wear and tear on the starter --- the system does not use the starter. The motor stops at specific rotation points and for "re-start" simply spurts a bit of fuel in the appropriate cylinder and fires the plug-- spinning the motorenough to start the motor. The system needs the motor to be at a specific minimum operating temp for it to work... that's why with the system engaged, it will not stop-start when cold. This per a detailed discussion with staff at the dealer --- FWIW.
