Angry luggage compartment cross bar

Help....How do you remove the cross bar in the luggage compartment behind the rear seats in a Panamera?
Thanks
Fritz

If latest generation Panamera: Put rear seats down. Remove luggage cover. On passenger's side of the car, at the end of the crossbar, there's a recessed handle. Pull it up and tug on it, pulling towards the center of the car. Bar pulls away from that side of car, then lift it away from the opposite side.

MUCH easier than in earlier generations of the Panamera.

If you have a 2010 thru 2016, it's harder. There's a button on passenger end that you need to push, and keep pushed in, and pull the end of the bar away from the side of the car. It fights back, at least in my experience. Once you get it free, same as above.

Exactly this.
And to add - in the old model, it not only fights back when you want to re-install it, it often wins, until you resort to red mist temper tantrum and kick its *** - almost literally once or twice.

2010 4S. Took me 2hrs to figure it out and remove the bar. Mine had the sunshade as well as the luggage cover. The owners manual makes it sound so easy, bugger that. Some Bavarian engineer must have stayed up all night designing that piece of work. If anyone wants one I will sell mine cheap.
Cheers

The luggage compartment cover is an option. Mine supposedly came with it, but evidently a previous owner kept it (or forgot about it)

i dont think that is correct. The car (at least in US) comes standard with a one piece luggage compartment cover, which connects with the infamous bar. The option was a roll-up, instead of solid, cover. If you have no cover at all my bet is that previous owner removed both cover and bar, and failed to reinstall them when he sold/traded in the car.

yeah, I forgot about the solid cover, which apparently has its own -albeit different - bar. I should have specified the retractable cover in my previous post. Looks like both Kingsrule and myself got stiffed!
