The dealer couldn't even quote me a price because there was no price listed when we put the order together.

Also along with driver differences, the Camaro has suspension/camber changes that can be made easily (so they say), track side so you can try different setups for different tracks and be able to go back to complete stock for the drive home, even though I would still trailer it.
I assume the track pack car is new for '18 (?), but the new, standard ZL1 has been out for a bit. There was one on my dealer's lot a month ago. With a $10k over sticker ask on the windshield...

Here's a good review of the non track pack car on the track.

It was def a ZL1, I was close enough to read it off the bumper for most of the track. Not sure if it was a '17 or '18, new to him, no plate yet and temp placard in front window (Cali).

^ The ZL1 1LE has completely different suspension, tires, increased aero, etc.

I have Z/28 and love it for bang for the buck track car. The ZL1 1LE will be a beast at the track and has some super nice features that will make it a fun car with easy adjustments to be made.

I am also a fan of the GT350R and only ended up with the Z/28 when I found R's way over sticker and the Z/28 was $25k off MSRP - so for $53k I got a great track car, but the R is a great track car and a great street car.

The ZL1 1LE will be more of a track car with the Multimatic DSSV shocks, like the Z/28 and won't have the nice ride of the mag ride systems on the standard car. The Multimatics are good shocks and are compliant and not harsh on the street, but they are firm - plus springs on Z are 85% stiffer - the 1LE will also have stiffer springs for the track.

For the money you won't find a better option unless you get a GT350r which would be a great alternative, but currently is more $$$$ - I say go for it as life is short and the more experience you can fit in the better!

ZL1's are not bringing over sticker - they are selling at some discount to MSRP.

The ZL1 - 1LE will be limited to 750 cars for 2018 and they will go from there on production based on sales.

Oh, I know, I laughed when I saw it on the sticker. Silicon Valley dealer trolling for a fish.

It weighs close to 4000 Lbs. For me, that fact alone rules it out as a track car.

I also agree the Mustang looks a bit nicer, but the interior of the mustang really bores me and at the end of the day that is what you see when you are driving it.

The interior of the Camero is pretty nice with Alcantara, Carbon Fiber, and the Recaro buckets.

As far as visibility, I thought the same thing when I sat in one until i took a SS on a test drive and it really did not bother me.

The other thing that I like is that it has 19s with fat tires so I can put some Hoosiers R7s on it and I am sure that will help big time with overall traction.

At the big track at Willow Springs Raceway, we had Randy lap a SS 1LE, a ZL1 with a six-speed manual and a ZL1 with the 10-speed auto. The 1LE ran a 1:28.29. That’s a great lap, especially when you consider that time is 0.1 second ahead of the previous-generation Camaro Z/28, which is a former BDC winner and track-focused monster with more horsepower and torque.

And now the ZL1 (Non LE). LE will be even faster.
Next up was the ZL1 with a manual. That stick-shift ran a blistering quick 1:26.16, besting the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport (1:26.28), a 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S (1:27.04), a 2015 Porsche Turbo S (1:27.17), and a 2017 McLaren 570S prototype (1:27.21). Impressed yet?

Randy strongly felt there were some tenths left in the automatic ZL1. He worked with a couple of engineers from Chevy and kept adjusting tire pressures and lapping. The result? An unofficial lap time of 1:25.87, recorded on the ZL1’s optional Performance Data Recorder (PDR). A McLaren 650S Spider—a mid-engine, 3,239-pound, 641-horsepower, carbon-fiber supercar—does a 1:25.88. Yes, you read that right. The quarter-million-dollar McLaren got beat by a Camaro. But because our test team didn’t run the numbers—meaning we don’t have a Vbox data file of the lap—we have to asterisk Randy’s lunchtime lap. It’s simply not official. These things happen. But here’s the thing: You’re not supposed to mention Chevy’s other sports car in the same breath as legit, flat-out elite supercars such as the Chevrolet flagship. But if the lap holds, the ZL1 has the eighth-best lap we’ve ever seen around Big Willow and is less than a second behind the best we’ve seen from big brother Z06 (1:25.00)

Biggest problem with these cars is weight!
Just finished up a great day at Sebring with my gt350. Car is a good compromise. Good street car. Ok on track but oh my I miss my gt3 on track.

Even with more hp than the 991gt3 that I played with today, they left me on the back straight. The gt350 is a bargain and holds up to abuse. It runs thru fuel like there is no tomorrow.

To OP,

My guess is, you'll enjoy the American sport car for a little while. They have charm. But, after a few track days. You just want back in that gt3rs. No hiding weight on track.

I love these kind of cars too. Why not give it a try? As some one else pointed out you should be able to flip it for little loss if it isn't your thing. Bear in mind it's likely a very different experience compared to the GT3.

Exactly, John. And a very different experience isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I think it's a great car.

I just don't understand why it's so heavy. Maybe that's why it's about 2/3 price of a GT3
