Question For Ranger Rover Owners

We had a Evoque 2013. Loved the body style and was overall a nice car. 35K miles.....had to replace tires at 30K and needed brakes when we traded it. Didn't like the way the transmission shifted....very jerky. Went with the Macan this time.

We've had our 16 RRS HSE diesel since last summer - exact same car, correct? We're very happy with it, and if you've driven it much you probably know why. The diesel at only ~4600 lbs is light for the segment.
The only issue we've had at ~7000 miles is a stray check engine light that didn't offer an error code. I live by the dealership so we just stopped by unannounced, they reset it, and nothing since. Took five minutes. Oh, the left mirror dips in reverse and 10% of the time it doesn't pull back up all the way. Not a big deal so we'll mention it when we schedule an oil change.
The traction control and 4wd system is impressive. I really like the diesel. I have a lead foot and it needed the second urea (DEF/Adblue) fill at ~7000 miles. Get it on amazon in a large quantity and it's cheap. It's like filling windshield washer fluid. The dealer price to fill it isn't atrocious but I hate to make an appointment or wait when I can do it in a few minutes in the garage. The price for fill it yourself cans at the dealer is atrocious so that's why I went on amazon.
Diesel gas station pumps always seep fuel so you may want to get into the habit of grabbing a rag and putting it on the pump handle if you don't like smelling of it. Fuel range is quite long so you won't be filling it all the time.
They come on summer oriented tires in the US, so you'll probably want to pick up winter tires. We found a set of OEM tire and wheel take offs (3000 miles) on eBay for $1000 shipped and mounted our snow tires to them.

For once, the reliability issues on a car are overblown. Have an '06 LR3 with 125k miles that's never been in to a shop for anything but regular maintenance. All the air suspension components are original and work fine.
Land Rovers got way more reliable when BMW took over and even better when Ford bought them. I love mine and can't say I've ever owned a more useful vehicle...certainly not one with more character.

I've owned a 2015 SVR for over a year now and it has 18,000 miles. All I can say is the performance has been great and as far as reliability, not so much as a hiccup. Also, it has one of the best sounding exhaust notes from a factory exhaust that you will ever hear!

It appears there are quite a number of Porsche 911 owners that also have Range Rovers. My wife has decided she wants a new Ranger Rover Sport HSE tdi. It's a terrific driver, but what's been your experience on reliability? I know in the past they had a poor reputation, in fact could be a nightmare to own. What's the story on the newer models?
Thanks in advance...

Its still better than a Cayenne IMO.
Reliability and craftmanship has improved after Ford sold it to TATA motors. This is not my first RR Sport and prior to this, I had a RR Sport SC and I also loved it. But trim pieces feel and look cheap.
This is one of the brands that I would say I want to own until i am down under, with my porsches. Its like its too much for an SUV but just in case the Zombies invade, I know I have a Range Rover to smash thru them.

Are you sure about that? Its a Diesel. Its averages 27 miles with 32 miles Hwy. Diesel is also cheaper by .30 cents per gallon. I do like a Cherokee, I rented one, but its not a RR, not even close.

Our 2016 RRS TD6 has continued on without any issues. 32k miles now. Really like this vehicle.
Since we bought it new we had that early CEL the dealer reset (it never came back), a mirror un-dipping glitch (I actually turned the feature off at some point and forgot about it but 10% of the time the drivers side mirror forgets to raise up), and on 2-3 drives the rear wiper has just taken the day off only to be back in service right after. Maybe the humidity or something like that did it, I don't know. So that's not perfect, but besides the CEL reset none of those were issues where the car needed to get service right away. It has character and has done quite a few road trips now. We've been very happy with it.

Interesting thread..............my son wants me to include them in our search for a new SUV. Told him I did not want to drive a box, he said, "What do you think you drive now?" I really like that they have the hitch cameras, so you can do it by yourself.

I, too, am very interested to hear from other RR owners.
I've been thinking about leasing a new '19 Range Sport V8. Took a test drive for fun to kill some time the other weekend and I was super impressed. I'm die hard P-car - but I need a one ring rules them all family cruiser DD that I can also take hiking and biking in the mountains on weekends. Owned 2 Cayennes and currently have a Macan GTS (wife's car) but the interior of the RRS is just so nice. Not very interested in the new Cayennes and budget won't allow for Sport tourismo 4S/Turbo just yet. Looks like Rovers had lots of issues with their new "PCM" In touch display but seems to be sorted with the latest software updates.

Rover electronics aren’t great but we’ve been really happy with it. They really are great for that type of family hauling do it all role. Mine will be towing the race car next year.
