If RWD and over 400hp is a must, maybe an 2010 or older C63 AMG? Looks like you could get one with about 60K miles in your price range.

+1...The inline 6 turbo engines in these are amazing and respond incredibly well to tuning. I had a E60 N54 535i Msport and a 2009 N54 135i Msport both with tunes (JB3) and water/meth. Both were fantastic. The 135 is a 2 door but the rear seats are totally functional (I know these cars look small but they are deceiving). The 535i is a full size car though so if you prefer a larger 4 door it fits the bill nicely. The engines and trannies (even the autos are very strong). Tune + exhaust on either of these makes for really quick cars!!

E55, 3/535i BMW are nice cars and very mod friendly, won't feel slowwww vs the 6tt either
really like E39 M5 and E9x M3, but mod-ability is limited power wise unless $$$
C63 are sweet, make sure the updates have been done if buying older

I daily a CTS-V. It's the first gen model, but fully modded (heads, cam, intake, full exhaust, etc) and it's great. Dead nuts reliable, and decently quick as well. Not to mention you can get into 1 for far less than $30K.

The M3's at that price will be driven hard and put away wet.
I'm pretty happy with my E92 335 with stage 2 Dinan package. All wheel drive is nice in the snow.
If you want TT power you already have it!

At one point I had researched both the E39 M5 and '04-'05 MB E55.

For a commuter/cruiser, I'd go with a well documented low mileage E55.

While not as nimble as the M5, it makes serious torque (stock!) and has a bulletproof powertrain.

But like all 10+ year old German cars, things will break.

Newer STi is not of course in this league but with exhaust/downpipe and tune, it's a lot of car for the money and is way more tossable than any M5 or MB.

How about a high mileage 996TT that you don't mind ragging on?
Audi RS6? (the ones from 2003)
Cayenne turbo?
E39 M5 (wagon if you can find it )

WPOZZZ No SUVs, so what about a W211 E55. I had one and it is a torque monster!
What type of issues did you have with this ride, good candidate but I haven't done the research on E55/63 yet. Feedback from those that have had one of these would be great.

NoogaSparrow or Maserati Quattroporte! ... if I spelled it right
These are ridiculously cheap vs sticker but I'd assume repairs are ridiculous too.

The muscle car guy in me wants an LS to mod, looks like a gen 1 is about $15k @100k miles.

I'm always drawn to the CTS-V and E55 as well.. Especially the E55.. Not so much for handling, but comfy.. like a rocket-powered sofa..

I have colleagues that have had both E55 and CTS-V for DDs. The 2 guys with CTS-V have moved on to other platforms, the E55 guy is on his 3rd E55- he actually has 2, one to keep stock and one to mod. The guy with the E55 has a decent selection of things to drive and he almost always chooses to drive one of the Mercs which says something to me.

The CTS-V guys, one was *heavily* modded, the other was stock. They moved on to a turbo 1000-hp LSx based 427 stuffed in a police package Tahoe, and the other guy has a STi and a BRZ now so it could be since they moved on to SUV and Subarus that they have completely different mindset than you

Will see, going to drive a DCT one this afternoon.
The turbo ones seem like a good value, just like the sound of 8,000rpm NA motors!

The RS6 appeals to me, had a gutless wagon version and liked the way it handled with all fresh suspension.

You can get into a V1 for much less than $15K. There was a clean, stock one for sale a few days ago for $9K. Finding one for $12K or less shouldn't be an issue at all. I came across a very well modded 2007 yesterday with high miles for $15K.

also consider a SRT8 Chrysler/Dodge...not the most refined but a good cruiser and they can take absolute abuse in stride... buddy of mine has one built-up a bit, ~470whp, and treats it like crap/neglect, but just keeps on going without any obvious signs of wear
Also have Mustang 5.0/Camaro SS friends, good cars also, for what they are...

2008-2010 3.0t S4? That or a TT-RS is what I am leaning towards for a daily. Sold my E39 540i last year, loved that car but it was not a great winter daily and in the summer I tend to drive all the other toys when there is not salt on the roads.
