Also, if you can get a hold of Roundel, which is the BMWCC magazine, it has good classifieds

Perhaps you can try bimmerpost.com.
I used to own several BMW M cars, really great cars.

Bimmerforums is not populated by adults.

You need to look at m3forum.net

what is the average lowest price for a donor E46 car now considering doing a NASA GTS3 (de-tuned) build?
i am still trying to decide if I want to build it myself or buy partially pre-build car but i want to do suspension myself and can do most engine work myself, do not want to do cage and stripping. so cannot decide what way to choose to save most $.

I haven't gone bottom fishing, but you can easily find M3s south of $15k if you don't mind issues, and under $8-10k for a run of the mill 3-series. Which path are you looking for?

This.

I think that BMWCCA's site would have more current cars than the mag would. By the time it gets into the mag it's been on the market for a while.

Frankly, there are so many E46s out there for sale, I would just pick one up from cars.com. Tons of them for sale, even down to around $13k.

I've probably shifted my focus from an E46 M3 to an E36/8 M Coupe. That said, I will offer this observation... just grabbing any $15k car off of Cars.com seems like a scary proposition to me. The S54 engine had its share of teething pains, the chassis suffered from some non-trivial issues with the rear subframe assembly. I think caution is warranted jumping into these cars, although I think it's completely possible to buy a great one. I see an excellent example in Seattle right now, and if my focus was still on the M3, I would probably be buying it. One more editorial note on the E46 M3... unfortunately the prices are such that it has become a target for every boy racer out there. There are SO many examples of cars that are just ruined IMO.

As for the M Coupe w/ the S54... oh my.

Check enthusiastauto.com

They are at the top of the price point, but have a nice product.

P.S. I have a nice 2004 E46 M3 for sale, it have 90,000 miles but runs like a top!

Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the response. I shifted my attention to M Coupes.

I have a 2001 Imola Red M Coupe on the way from Maui right now.
