Yup.

Hotrod Chevy parts MUCH MUCH cheaper than hotrod Porsche parts.

You don't drive a 951 because it's good "bang for the buck" compared to other used sports cars in the same price point.

on the serious note if the C5 is such a great car why do some 951 guys go through the pain of swapping a LS engine in their 951's? average cost of a ls swap 25-30k you can buy a used c5 z06 for that much

thats a question I've been curious about. is it more cost effective to sell the porche track car and get a z06 track car then to do an ls swap? especially with an ls3..etc.

It really just depends what you want.
If you require 500+ rwhp and reliability a 951 is just not feasible.

I looked very seriously at doing a LS conversion 951...... unfortunately short of transplanting everything (trans/diff/axles) I don't see any realistic durability can be achieved at 500+

25-30k? Since when?
Not everyone can do the swap in their own garage; some people buy new crate engines and then have to take it to shops that charge $85-125 an hour for labor to do a swap.

Its pretty easy to get up to 30k at a high end shop... In fact, im pretty sure most people on rennlist who have a V8 in their 944 did it themselves.

I had a shop do my swap and I paid *nowhere* near $25-30k for it. I didn't even pay half of that and when you take into account the amount I recouped by selling off the unneeded turbo parts I didn't even pay 1/4 of that range.

That's the reason people are swapping LSx's into 944's. If it was going to cost me $25-30k I would've sold my car as a roller and just bought the vette. Reality was it was FAR cheaper to do the swap then buy the vette.

When I talked to TPC, granted this is last summer and I am going by memory, LSX swap was in the 4k in labor for basic install. I know you gotta count and engine and parts on top of that but dang. I would think for 25k you could have a ZR1 motor in that bad boy.

I talked to TPC as well and he mention roughly 5k in labor so that combined with the engine and parts I would image 10k or less should get you a ls1 swap professionally installed. I would do it myself for 3-4k personally and use a 383 stoker with Carb... no wiring hardly and no gas mileage

I will say the C6 and C5 interiors aren't bad at all if you've been in a Viper. I think sitting in one of those is the biggest dissapointments. 80-90k car and you have a big piece of plastic with Dodge Neor switchs.

I dont know guys but either Im gone in full retard mode or something is wrong with the math, a 3L conversion w 16V runs in the 30K + a, full rebuild is around 8k, so if a ls swap is in the 12K plus why do people still dumping money in their 4cyl 951's?

Track guys are already heading the way of the LS V8 swaps. It's really the only way of keeping these cars relevant and reliable. I have 7k in mine, running. Leaving any rust aside, I completely understand the issue of reliability, my questions was if the corvette is such a great car with the cheap prices out there why would you do a LS swap, just get the real thing, there are a plenty of C5 z06 in SoCal under 20k .
