Beyond the standard diesel noise, no significant rattles all the way to the end.
Got $2200 for it.

The (full size) spare is housed aft of the drivers side rear wheel. I would think the retrofit would be rather easy assuming you wanted to spend the $$.

I have never driven an E55, but had a few opportunities to drive its successor, the E63, as a sedan. Apart from the power and great handling, I particularly liked the way the transmission predicted what gear I'd need next. When I approached a turn, it would downshift into exactly the right gear to get me out of that turn fast. Hope the E55 has a similar transmission set-up - the SLK55 I drove had it.

Marcus,
When I had the E39 M5, the E55 was the ultimate competition. Now a E55 wagon is the ultimate conflict-in-identity automobile.
Great car, enjoy in fine health.

Congradulations. I owned a E55 for 6 years. Great car just very costly when it came to parts. Wait until you have to do the brakes. Bring a very big wallet. Hope you have some warranty that air ride suspension is very expensive to repair if it fails.

Awesome. I love sport wagons, and the rear facing 3rd seat is too fun!
I've had a few rare wagons in the last few years, all manual transmissions (now about a dead breed )
Passat 4-motion 1.8T 5 speed
Jetta VR6 5-speed
I almost pulled the trigger on a Passat W8 6 speed manual wagon - that would have been very cool, but I would have lost my shirt on it. Came out pretty well on the 1.8T when time cam for a dual purpose kid hauler/tow vehicle.
