Default VW Golf R

I know several on here have had or have the original '04 R32, so is anyone thinking of getting one of the new Golf R's. Not much not to like: AWD, bulletproof 2.0T powerplant, manual, easy to mod for extra power and very good fuel economy.

I think this will be my next DD..... in the 4 door flavor.

I'm picking up a 2012 GTI this week. It's not the R, but the GTI itself is a pretty awesome car for the $$

I have a 2012 GTI DSG as a DD too. Couldn't agree more. It's a great car for the $.

Sad that the Golf R is rumored to not be available with the DSG (for those of us to endur traffic). Very limited production as well.

I gave it strong consideration but ended up buying my Jeep instead.

My son has an 08 R32.
Great car, just had the DSG recall done, VW gave a 10 yr extended warranty on the transmission.

Ironically, the 08 only offered DSG. If he didn't have the 08, he would probably get the Golf R.

Drove both the 04 and 08 models. The 04 sounds and drives great, but the interior is naff. Never liked the MkV design and the DSG was also a negative for the sort of driving I do. Now if I lived in LA and had an hr commute I could see the benefits of the transmission.

Can't wait to test drive the new R, although I'd have liked Audi to import the S3.

If you thought the 993 Sport Seats were eye-wateringly expensive check out the price of the Recaro options for the R model. Won't be offered on the US model but can be purchased through a 3rd party.

I have a deposit down for a two-door Golf R with the opton package, and will be selling my '04 R32 privately. The Golf Rs are expected to start arriving in Jan-Feb.

I really love my R32, and will miss it terribly
I think the Golf R will be a suitable replacement for the R32, and I'm looking forward to driving without all that extra weight of the VR6 hanging over the front axle.
But I am definitely going to miss the incredible exhaust note of the R32. That's going to be the hardest part of giving up the R32.

I had an order on a 4 door Rising blue R to replace my 2004 .:R32. Decided to cancel my order and bought an 06 S4 Avant. My one and only issue was the motor. I know how tunable and efficient it is but after owning nothing but VR6 motors (and of course the 993 with fister III's) I don't think I could get over the 4 cylinder noise. Realistically, my .:R32 sounded somewhat exotic and I loved that about the car. Picking up the S4 in 2 weeks so I'm excited! I'm sure I will be somewhat jealous once the R comes in but thats OK!!
