I have CCB's on my F430 and they are superb on the track, but I can't compare to a GT3 as I've never owned one.

The major con (IMO) is that it always feels like the paparazzi are after you when you drive this car. I am likely going back to Porsche because of this.

No different in my beck of the woods with my .2 GT3; the paparazzi that is. Of course here, people get excited about Camaros.

Porsches used to be a big deal here until a dealership opened up in town. Now they're a dime a dozen. However I have yet to see a 997 GT3 or an RS so they might still attract a bit of attention.

Very good pads and brake fluid can wake up the factory F430 Steel brakes and can improve the CCM Brakes as well.

Congrats on on the manual, a fine choice. Only a few % of them were 6 speeds if I remember correctly. Enjoy

I am on the cusp of the same move, except I will also get a dedicated track car. My GT3 is too much of a compromise now, set up too rough for the street, but too heavy for the track. Furthermore, I am not comfortable anymore tracking the car with the center locks, the work required takes all the fun out of it and I don't think they system can take constant track use without serious $ put in replacing parts before they fail. Center lock nuts, hubs, and splines all have a limited life.

I am looking at an F430 tomorrow, also 6 speed and Daytona seats. It will be just for the road, with a dedicated P-car for track only, to include a full cage and fire suppression system. After you hit 35+ track days a year, it makes sense to have a dedicated tool.

WOW, i love that car. thus, i must hate you. but seriously, congrats man!

2 things tho:

i find it hard to believe that the brakes are not up to track duty. ?? oh, and i'm not doubting the informed opinions on here at all; i'm questioning how a design team let an oversight like that go to production!

and i didnt think you could even get a manual on those anymore? thought it wasnt even an option...

I got a 430 back in 06. F1 with ceramics. Tracked it and it was great. But soft as I got faster. Then I got a gen 1 997 gt3. Had both cars for a year and stayed with the GT3. The 430 was amazing but ended up a Sunday drive car vs lots of tracking and driving pcar. I didn't like the attention the 430 brought. The porsche sport buckets blow away the daytona seat IMO.
I do miss the sound and power of the 430. I think I need to get the SW bypass.

The 430 was replaced a year or so ago by the 458 and, in the case of the latter, a manual isn't even an option. Now that I think of it I'm not sure any new Ferrari can be had with a manual

The brakes are fine as long as you stick to the crappy low grip tires that came with the car. If you switch to race compound rubber, the brakes are not enough, no even with track pads. This is only applicable to the standard small size brakes. Whoever finds the stock brakes sufficient with track brake fluid and track pads, is not driving near the limits of the car, probably 5+ secs off the pace at a track like Sebring.

With a full tank of fuel the F430 with Daytona Power seats is a 3,391 lbs car, or 3,379 lbs for a car with manual transmission. Add the driver, helmet, fire extinguisher and your around 3,600 lbs. Try to stop such a heavy car with 330mm brakes that have Zero cooling ducts, and you'll find the deficiencies of the standard brakes.

However, Ferrari offered the CCB as an option and these brakes tolerate track use, but the brake pads don't last and they are $2,000 an axle ($4,000 for a set of brake pads). I ate a set of stock front pads at Sebring in 90 minutes. For these CCB brakes, Brembo offers a steel rotors kit, and they also offer different track compounds. These CCB are 380mm front and 350mm rear thick rotors. The CCB rotors are replaced in the challenge cars (430 Challenge) every 2 races for the front and every 3 races for the rear ones. Cost for parts with no calipers for the street F430, just CCB rotors and brake pads is $32k.

For street use in U.S. (65 mph at constant speeds, or stop-go traffic) the CCB should last over 100,000 miles, and the pads are good for 25,000 miles.
