Default Corvette: Z06

NOT FOR ME.......my GT3 still has the new car smell (well not really but i like Cougars)

I have a good friend who is a corvette nut. I make fun of him about the fact he has a 08 Z06 and a 10 ZR1.....both no miles and waxed more than driven.

Instead of tracking on of those, he wants to buy a 07ish Z06....for DE

If anyone has any leads...please PM me and I will give you his email address

Thanks

i think the newer z06's are great track car if.......

Gutted
Full cage
JRZ DA suspension
StopTech STR BBK
Full Monoball suspension upgrade
CR6 aero package (wing and splitter.. but new hood would be rad)

This will add about $15-$25k (depends if parts are sourced new or used) to the price of the donor, but you can have a great track car for about $50-$75k)

and the best part is new crate motors from GM are reasonable.

What about new seats like Recaros? I know you can't be serious about tracking a Vette with stock seats. It's the biggest item GM has dropped the ball on over and over again with the C6.

Buy the cheapest Z06 you can find and ship it here: http://www.mtiracing.com/

Or at least give these guys a call to see if they know anything for sale and or if you could be better off to start with a lesser model and build it up.

Well, I guess all those mods are nice if you want to spend the money, but I got the impression (correct me if I'm wrong) the potential buyer was looking for a DE car. If so, why make that kind of investment? The C6 Z06 is, stock for stock, even on runflats, as quick or quicker than an GT3 RS (see C&D Lightning Lap). It's a 1:40 car bone stock at Laguna. I just bought a 2007, and I personally think a used C6 Z06 is the performance bargain of the century. I put seats in it, harness bar, tow hooks, and I'm perfectly happy with it as a DE car. First time out at Laguna last week I was in the 1:42s in traffic on street tires (never a completely clear lap), and I am far from the hottest shoe out there. My biggest fear with the car was it would feel like a barge, but the handling dynamics are very, very, good, and my last track car was an Elise.

FWIW, YMMV.

What's the cost to race a vette vs. cup car, I wonder? The car cost itself seems to be w/in 10% of comparable GT3 Cups so that's one factor out of the equation...

Don't believe everything you hear about GM crate motors being compatible with corvettes. I finally gave up on finding anyone in So Cal who could make it work.

3 different tries that included 3 different engines and 3 different engine builders in 3 different cities.

I will never own another corvette. Have been screwed over by every chevy dealer I did business with. This includes the purchase of 3 new corvettes at 2 different dealers and warranty repairs at other dealers.

Very happy with my 7.1 GT3

Thanks for the video Izzone. Haven't laughed so hard in a long time.

Vettes certainly offer the best grin/$$

Too bad your buddy won't take the ZR1 to the track since "just" for DE.
