Traded the GT4

If you don't get it, you don't get it.
It just feels cheap and reverberates a pretty pathetic vibe of confirmation bias that's all over the place in this forum.
If I can offer a theory, I think it stems from a sort of "little man's syndrome" that people have with 718s. There's always a subtle awareness with some people that there's a better car available, even from the same manufacturer. The "it's not a 911 but somehow it's better because GT car" crowd. It rears its head every single day in here and it is really gross to see.
And it's apparently amplified when they see a Ferrari.
But that's just my "opinion". And I might as well get it in before the mods inevitably lock the thread because that's how things are handled in here; insecurities swept under the rug.

I could buy just about any car and I still picked the lowly 718. Why? Because the Spyder is a great car, performance and looks....one of the best all-around car I have ever owned out of about 50. And this is a 718 Forum so what do people expect?!

I drove a 458 after I sold my Targa GTS, which convinced me to order and subsequently purchased my Spyder, which now sounds better than any 458 I ever heard, and is nicer inside as well. Then again I am an open-top kind of guy so maybe the coupe version would be different, but I will never know.
And here is more appropriate Rennlist thread for Ferrari talk: https://rennlist.com/forums/other-ma...scussions-222/

2seats,
Before this Thread gets ............ LOCKED !!!
And you move on to a Ferrari Website ................
Seriously my man if I had the financial means I would have (Already) purchased the 458 in either Ferrari RED or Ferrari Yellow as those are My-Favorite colors.
I'm not envious but I sure am loving that I met you on this Porsche website and know a guy from here that jumped on the Ferrari 458 after same Rennlist member had his Porsche for 2-years.
To me your a Lucky-Fellow and to me it was nice of you to Post here what you decided to trade your Porsche in on.
And you even posted some pictures for us that love other Sport cars than just the Porsche brand.
I'm liking my GT4 even more after the last changes were made recently.
It now sounds great to me and for a guy (Me) that's 77-years old it's damn sure fast enough.
Enjoy your Ferrari 458 and if and when you do go to a Ferrari Website I would like to follow you as you continue to own it.
Send me a Link if you think about it as I'd love seeing more pictures as well as reading what you have to say about it in greater detail.
PM works for me buddy.
Terry

Congrats! The 458 was always on my list as a dream car, sadly in the last few years the prices have gone pretty nuts so it didn't happen for me. Maybe some day but it is going to be tough to find one in good condition at that point. Very special car, enjoy in good health!

But they're not out of proportion though. In fact it's enlightening to see someone post how they really feel instead of some passive aggressive bs. It's completely unnecessary for people to chime in with essentially "hey did you know that Ferraris kind of suck? But I hope your experience is better! Oh and by the way I think my Porsche is so much better than a Ferrari and here's how!"

All the selective complaints to me sound like virtue signaling by making a mountain out of a molehill. Example: No one called out OP for personal attacks, or for bragging, but having an opinion on his purchase is what deserves a full offensive?

I can't buy that argument. Literally everyone has biases or they couldn’t function so having some biases is normal. And as far as forums go this one is far from having ingrained biases; it's pretty open minded and diverse for opinions as far as I see compared to the rest of the internet which is why I am here and have never posted on reddit.

I'm certainly not immune to being the *******. Sometimes it's even fun.
But It's just UNNECESSARY in this context. You have to ask yourself why you feel compelled to throw in a negative comment when a guy posts about something he just bought.
And like I said, if you don't get it, you don't get it. I don't know how else to explain it, but it's low class. Maybe it's not even intentional- still low class.
I could be off-base about the whole "718 syndrome" thing, but it's just cringey as hell to see on here, and I can't think of any other reason people's first thought would be to call out the perception that Ferraris are unreliable... or bad as a driver's car? Come on...
As for the OP's posts you consider personal attacks, I think they're warranted. They do somehow bother me less, probably because they're not unsolicited.
I don't see where he's bragging. Maybe that's your problem right there? Unless I'm missing something. Posting his Ferrari purchase shouldn't be considered bragging on a Porsche forum.
And yes it's on topic because he traded a GT4, as per the title. It's completely reasonable to expect people to be interested in the ownership/driving experience comparison.

This throw down is a hoot.
It's a gorgeous car, and I am sure awesome to drive. Well done and good for you. If I had a 10 car garage, I would definitely get one; or a 360.
It's also a 10(+?) year old car that costs twice as much, and is an F-car, which has historically not been THE most reliable car on the planet. Going on ANY non-F-car forum and you are going to get the "reliability" push back you got here; at least here, it was in reasonably limited quantities.
The big laugh was an F-car guy throwing around "little man's syndrome" lol Now THAT is funny; it oozes irony.
So, good on you, you are a lucky man and I am sure the car is amazing to drive. But grow some thicker skin, because you now have a prancing horse-shaped cross-hairs on your back. Or, go hang out on the f-car board exclusively and you can talk about how you used to hang out with the wanna-be's on rennlist. And read the 1,000,000,000th thread on market trends and resale.
Personally, I hope you stay and give us some awesome (but off topic) 458 content, so we can live vicariously.

I wonder if people actually believe some of the nonsense that gets posted here.
Most of the consensus is that the 718/GT4/Spyder platform is a better purist sports car platform as compared to the bigger and heavier 992 which is why many of us choose to drive them. I find the Spyder by far the prettiest open top production Porsche which is why it has been my Porsche of choice 3 times in the last 7 years. Btw, while aesthetic taste will always be subjective, I don’t think this is particularly controversial statement.
It also seems you miss the point of “little man complex” which psychologically speaking is based on the need to overcompensate and impress typically with “prestige” items. Therefore it would seem the folks that need to own a “911” to go along with their Sub are more likely the ones to be suffering from said complex. (And this is not to anyway disparage the amazing and legendary 911. My first Porsche was an air cooled 911 and I have been a mid and rear engine Porsche fan and owner ever since.)
To the OP. What an awesome Ferrari! The 458 is one of my favorites and the one Ferrari I would own. I shoulda pulled the trigger on one in 2020. What a ride! Still, this is a web forum and a Porsche forum at that, so getting a little twisted when all the comments aren’t heaps of praise seems a little thin skinned not to mention foolish. Nevertheless Congrats!
