Default OT: 2017/18 Raptor...the RS of trucks

So my 2013 Raptor crew can was a great truck. Owned it since 2013. Then I test drove an ‘18 2 weeks ago. Wow. Noticeable differences as to interior quality and improved electronics. Looks much nicer too. A huge step up.

Performance: The new Raptor is NOTICEABLY lighter in feel and much quicker and torquier. Ride is better too.

True, It doesn’t sound like the 6.2L but it will take the old Raptors lunch in performance. Sound is still very aggressive and throaty especially for a 6. The turbo whine is very cool when they spoil up.

Towing capacity is still 9000 lbs which is plenty for me.

Exterior or looks are great. Very aggressive just like the last gen.

Gave in and got one when I found an 802A equipped crew cab in Lead Foot.

Who else Lise has a Raptor and RS pair?

Raptor is my DD since I'm a homebuilder. Look kind of stupid driving a GT3 on the jobs. Bought it in April, and so far, I'm happy with it. If I tow anything, it's a small trailer with ATVs. Might buy a trailer to tow my car around a little. If you are looking to tow more than that, I would recommend something else though.

I thought standard issue for you construction guys was a 3/4 or 1 ton. I would imagine you are constantly hauling skid steers and heavy materials from one site to another. Can the Raptor handle that?

Always wanted a Raptor and almost pulled the trigger in Feb..My 8 year old Son was all pumped up and never really got excited about my Sporr cars but I also think I have always had one since he was born so he never really appreciated them. But- I never had a truck before and after I test dtove it - was too big for me. I felt that parking it would be a big PIA. Cool factor was a 10 but and I still love how mean they look but ended up with a 550I.(complete 360)

Raptor can not handle big loads. Towing limit is 6000 lbs. Mine barely gets dirty tires! My last daily driver was a Macan. Just decided to try the truck out for fun. Will probably go back to a Cayenne in a year or two. I'm not a tool belt wearing contractor. More of a paper pushing behind the desk guy that goes out of job sites mainly to get away from the office!

One other thing (and main reason why I probably won't keep it long), it is a bitch to park in a parking lot. It is long and wide and doesn't turn that well. It does drive pretty well though.

Love the Raptor's - but the towing is definitely a concern with the race vehicles and trailer. Generally would not go less than a 3/4 ton diesel merely for the weight/bigger frame, dont think the Raptor would do well being a 1/2 ton with a Fox suspension that is designed to be driven hard off road. Apples and oranges, but if someone knows differently, Im all ears as Id love to get one.

I have one I spec'd out myself in late 2016... a 2017 Supercrew 802a in Avalanche Gray w/ Orange interior accents too like Waxer's and I tow my heaviest car with it (yeah that GT350R which is hundreds of pounds heavier than any 911).... even roundtrip to Sebring (5+ hrs total drive for me) and that's an all-steel car hauler I tow on.

For my use, no issues even with my tool box fully loaded.... and towing the GT4 or GT3 is easy peasy. I can pass other vehicles with ease too. In fact it performs (including towing) much better than my old Ram 1500. My Raptor has over 14K miles now and at least 20% of that is towing miles. NO problems. Best light-moderate duty pickup truck IMHO... and it's pretty darn quick.

My ex-GT350 (non-R) and ex-Ram 1500 Sport.... same trailer I still currently use for the Raptor:

Drove it as far north as Massachusetts... versatile & sporty yet comfy. Here was when I made a stop in southeastern Pennsylvania.... got to greet some fellow Raptors too.

I’m thinking hard about one. The sound is not wonderful but could be worse. I actually drove a Hennessey Velociraptor 500 the other day with a Borla exhaust that sounded terrible; I don’t recommend that aftermarket exhaust.

The biggest thing keeping me from getting an ‘18 is the possibility of a 7.0L V-8 option that may be coming in 2020.

Been towing the above with Raptor for years. Open and enclosed. No issues.

I think dollar for dollar the 17 raptor and 18 raptor have been 2 of the top vehicles I've ever owned. Zero issues and lots of fun. Starting a raptor club to do off road rallies.

Wife loves it
Dogs love it
