If you’re an elite East African marathon runner you’ll earn an extra ~$100k bonus for a morning’s work if you can break a course record. One thing you absolutely must not do, however, if break that record by too much- 10 seconds max, but ideally two. Because if you move the bar by too much how are you or your East African buddies going to break it again and collect next year?
Break record, cash out, rinse and repeat. The ‘Ring alternative (going back again and again to achieve the best possible time) hurts both your buddies and you over time. Unless you’re on the Nissan GTR team, apparently. You have no buddies, so move the record as far and as many times as you can.
Apparently Germany and East Africa have more in common than you might think.
