Anyone own/driven the '18 AMG E63S?

In wagon form it does look pretty badass, and it's basically the last one left in that class I think w no RS6 avant or M5 touring in the US I believe. Some badge deleting and it could be a really strong sleeper.
I've had some seat time in the new E400 sedan. While it's really comfortable, the build quality and driving dynamics really leave a lot to be desired. I'm not sure how much of that would be addressed in AMG trim.
PS. I also often hear AMG depreciation is just ferocious

Something about every Mercedes I've ever driven struck me as nothing special. Fast yes, comfortable, maybe. Engaging, no. I'd try the new M5 or even the 550 if you really have to dump the 911.

I had the same issue and went with a third car. I got a Mustang GT 6 speed. First US car in 40 years. Love the Ford V8 and a totally different experience. It is a nice change of pace from a 911 Turbo PDK. I suspect the transaction cost of your option are close to 1/2 the cost of a stand alone Mustang

Don't do it. To me most if not all MB's have way too much interior bling for me although your tastes could be be different. As many have mentioned the Macan S or Turbo is a wonderful vehicle with exquisite handling and acceleration. I had a Macan S with a Cobb tune that was making close to 400 HP and 400 ft-lb and it pained me when I sold it. Outside of that I'd opt for an M Bimmer.

And the biggest single con: still no 911. But I'm thinking about taking care of that problem.

Try a XDrive 550i and install the Dinan tune, over 500 HP lots of torque sedan with good amount of room in back seat area. Used to run M5's but the all wheel drive and performance you can get from the twin turbo V8 in a 550 makes it a good choice. Also much less money so maybe keep 911.....Thats what I did.

I have a 2016 E63S wagon and it is a pretty badass car. As a previous comment pointed out, with the BMW and Audi super wagon variants not available in the US market, and the Cadillac CTS-V wagon discontinued, this car is in a class by itself. My 2016 is the previous gen model with the model year changeover happening in 2017 (AMG variants lag new gen models by one year), so the 2018 AMG wagon is a year 1 car for the W213 generation. Interesting trivia, the AMG wagon is the rarest AMG offered, Mercedes makes between 220-230 of these each year and a little more than half are for the US market.
I’m not a big fan of the downsized 4.0 litre powerplant, my 2016 has a 5.5 and even though the 4.0 makes more power, over 600 hp to my 577, I like the powerband and sound of the 5.5. I trust Mercedes when it comes to powerplants.
The dynamic AWD system in the W213 is a major addition, my 2016 has a 70/30 AWD, and by all accounts the driving experience with the dynamic AWD is otherworldy. The digital cockpit is an inevitability for all cars, much talked about in a thread here about a mule spy photo, and I’m mixed but will withhold judgement until I drive it. The cockpit in my car is built for a driver, and it was only after owning it for a while that I appreciated the genius of what I first thought was an explosion at the button factory. It is busy layout but the genius is that you can affect all parts of the car that you would car to affect without scrolling through menus.
The seats are advanced and I have the active bolstering option, which I wish my GTS offered. This is not a track-first car so the challenge is to offer features that support performance use while offering comfort for everyday driving. The suspension is an example of this, in comfort mode it is firm but giving but when you ratchet it up 2 clicks it transforms the car. The brakes are massive, I have steel brakes and go back and forth on the CCB option that I didn’t get but have on my GTS.
Anyone who would call this car sterile or uninspiring simply hasn’t driven one. It is not a Porsche 911 experience, for sure, but the car is an extra 1,000+ lbs and a completely different profile, but it does haul *** and offers a trackworthy capability when you want it. And going 0-60 in 3.4 with a wagon does make it a legit sleeper.

I neglected to add in my comment that the chassis on E class is a rock. In my wagon I have the panoramic roof and never hear a squeak out of it, and when entering driveways with a steep approach I can turn in an lift one corner of the car off the ground. For a heavy car that is putting out nearly 600 hp and ft lb of torque, it amazes me that this car just doesn’t flex.
