This replaces my M235i which I never really bonded with.

Your TTS is gorgeous!

Im not comparing an Audi TT to a 911. Mostly I was looking for info and shopping around for something fun with Missy - but I ain't spending 911 money on that. And, besides that she just got a new hor$e. The 1 hp variety. Once I get her done in a new something, and recover from this large rebuilding costs, yeah its easy then as the 911 is for me.

I was just interested in the TT and here it was. I last sat in an Audi when they made the Audi 5000. I couldn't wait to get out of college and get a 5000. But I bypassed the Audi a few laters for Porsche.

I gathered that. I just meant that the TT isn’t such a bad second car. But not as cool as a horse!

Hawt damn, BradB. Looks good in red. :-)

Gotta be careful as a newbie on the RL. But this converting Audi fanboy had a 2017 TTS for 6 wonderful months. In fact I loved it sooo much, I decided to immediately upgrade to a 2018 TT RS. Sold TTS, ordered TTRS... Everything was going swimmingly (with the order) until the TT RS got stuck in the Port of Houston. I finally gave up waiting (62 days and counting), and just bought the 911T.

Anyhoo.... Despite the lack-o-love on this forum towards the TT's... I have to say that TTS handled beautifully for the 100% of driving I did on public roads, and was great in any weather. The TTS stuck to any road, more than enough power for legal use...and is great value. I could get a bunch of gear in the trunk for long weekends. For the TTRS - when I (joking around) configured a 911 to 'match' the TT RS (2+2 format, 3.8 sec 0-60, AWD, leather, LED lights, dynamic suspension, PDK, etc, etc...) the 911 4S was $141k and the TTRS was $74.6k. So, I'd say that was great value. [Putting on flame retardant suit now.]

Yeah I have never much subscribed to the I want a Porsche but at a Hyundai price. But I go get a ( another ) English riding / jumping horse for her and now here I am scrounging to see if I can squeeze down to cheaper toys for me. Ha - such is life sometimes.

I'll tell you this though beings this is the 991 Forum. I drove the 991.2 and the 718 there at PEC in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago. No question that the 991.2 is just a great car and a great sports car too. Before I have always preferred the Cayman especially in the 981. But Porsche did the job as you'd expect with the new 911. Not being a turbo fan either, hey I've had 951s in the day, I can say that if you didn't know it was a 3 liter turbo then you'd never know.

Thanks for the help guys and Congrats on that new T too ^.

I'll tell you what - this sentence right here screams to me - (1) Miata; or (2) (better looking - and cooler car all around) Fiat 124 Spider; or (3) (outside the box) Alpha 4C.

*IF* (and its a big if) I couldn't have a 991 - and I had to have a new car - one of these it would be. Especially to learn on.

If it didn't have to be new it would be an older 911 + 15K in the bank for M&S.

cheers!

That was my choice and it worked out well for me and her. It's a stick shift too and I love driving this car myself.

And thanks for great review K-A!

No. Way. The Golf R doesn't sound great but it sounds wayyyy better than the fart can 718.

I wonder how the new TT-RS feels. I read reviewers that say the 718 is still better, but the Audi 5 cylinder is so unique

I’m planning on test-driving one, should one available for a test drive ever materialize at a local dealer. I don’t have any hopes for the chassis being better than the standard mk3. But, I want to hear the song of the motor again.

I kinda wish, now, that I’d kept the ‘12RS since the mk3s are DSG only.

You really think so? If you turn off the soundaktor the Golf R is actually pretty quiet. I have the exhaust valves opened 100% of the time and it's still not enough volume for me.
