Default Road trips in New England for spirited driving

I'm a new 991.2 owner and would like to go exploring with the top-down before fall hits. Any recommendations for how to find good roads to cruise down (ideally, without an overwhelming LEO presence)? Most GPS software seems to focus on getting from A to B as efficiently as possible...I just want to enjoy the ride and take as long as possible.

Where, specifically?

The Kancamagus Highway in NH is one of the best roads in New England.

I am west of Boston, and do not have any suggestions for the north shore.

Check out this thread for ideas: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1077...-and-mass.html

Has it been repaved in the last few years? ‘cause I did it a couple of years ago and it was mostly $h1+y for the eastward-most 1/2.

I did it for the first time just over 18 months ago and the pavement was fine overall; fresh pavement started about five miles east of Loon. We did not make it all the way to Conway, so not sure if the new pavement extended all the way to the end.

The Kanc is great for a scenic cruise, but I prefer the pavement at Club Motorsports

Take route 2 west and once you get past 91 in Greenfield, it is twisty, curvy and LEO free. Route 112 and 116 are extra fun too...

Just did the Kancamangous in July and the pavement was in pretty good shape. Some of the surrounding roads not so much.

To the original poster - I have some recommendations in Vermont, but am not sure if you are interested in heading this far west.....

dbk123: actually, going out that far west is in the cards. In fact, it may be my best bet.

Great. We have some pretty nice roads in the Green Mountains of Vermont. Route 100 that runs north-south is the most popular and really great once you to get a bit north of Route 4. It runs just east of the mountains and provides access to roads that run up into the mountains. There are two that are definitely worth driving:

Brandon Gap (Route 73) - not very long, but recently repaved and a lot of fun

Route 17. Classic mountain road, lots of switchbacks, awesome climbing. I suspect it can be crowded on the weekends (and foliage season) as it is probably the best driving road in Vermont. Pavement is rough at the bottom, but really nice during the last 3-4 miles when the road is a series of constant switchbacks. Expect to see lots of sport bikes and some cyclists.

Let me know when you are coming over and maybe we can get together!

Thanks, dbk123!

I'm going to do some research and map some POIs in Google Maps. I'd like to get 1-2 trips in while the weather is still decent. I'll post back here when I make it up your way.

Sounds great. PM me as well - maybe we can connect. The roads I mentioned will be crowded during weekends in foliage season. I have a few other roads that are near me (I live in Central Vermont near the New Hampshire border) that I can point you to when I have a better sense of your plans.

Used to live in CT for 7 years. Amazing roads there in the eastern part of the state. One of my favs is highway 169. Stop in at the Vanilla Bean Cafe, excellent food and a cool vibe.

Route 9 between Bennington, VT and Brattleboro is all brand new pavement except for a few miles west of Brattleboro. Totally worth the (high speed roller coaster) drive! Route 9 east from Brattleboro to route 93 in NH was not worth the drive. Maybe we could put together a Group based google map route? Starting with THIS? Route 116 between 91 and 112 is also brand-new pavement.

That would be a lot of fun! Keep me posted. I have two buddies who might want to join.
