My brother lives in Durham and on several occasions before my accident. Frank Barnhill and I got together and worked on our cars in his garage.

If I understand you question, on an '88 auto, there is a Wide Open Throttle ( WOT) kickdown switch behind the gas pedal. When you floor the gas, this switch is engaged, and the transmission shift pattern is altered to that it holds off on upshifts and also down shifts much more aggressively. Many people, myself included, have jumpered into that switch behind the pedal and added a second, manually activate switch that we can engage without flooring the gas. Gives the same benefits, namely much more aggressive shifting. Often called a kickdown bypass switch.
I has seen conversations that this also affects the fuel injection mapping, but I can't confirm that.
