Nov 20, 2017 12:23 AMHello Connor,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - I only log in occasionally given my schedule. You are right, the engine should rotate fairly easy since you are only fighting the resistance of the valve springs. You should feel resistance but not any compression resistance since the spark plugs are out. Can you tell me what position you currently have the crank shaft? Is it at 45 degrees BTDC? I assume you are turning the crank at the 27mm crank bolt and are rotating clockwise (from the perspective of standing in front of the car)? Also, did the crank or the cam gears move at all during you removal and install of the timing belt? Sorry for the obvious questions, just have to eliminate the obvious potential issues.

Nov 18, 2017 10:02 PMHey Dwayne!
I've been following your amazing timing belt write up and I've hit a snag and hoping you might have a fix. I've gotten to the point where the new timing belt is on, everything is lining up great, dampener is on, fly-lock tool out and I'm ready to rotate the engine to get to TDC. But, for some reason now, the engine doesn't want to rotate over. The starter and spark plugs are out as well. It has been sitting a month since I started the timing belt project, but I feel like it should turn much more freely than it is. Anything I may be missing or tips? It's a 1990 S4. Thanks a ton and hope all is well!
