Description:
I am offering my 2012 Cayman R to fellow Rennlister's while waiting for my BAT auction listing to go live. I have professional photos scheduled for the listing next week, which I will update this ad once they are ready. The car is also scheduled for service appointment this week to complete the 4 year major service, including:
- Oil & filter change
- Spark plugs
- Coil packs
- Cabin air filter
- Engine air filter
- All brake rotors and pads replaced
- Brake fluid flush
- Pre-purchase inspection report
The car is fully admissible to US without any modifications, it simply requires a letter from Porsche stating that the car has no open recalls which I have already requested, just waiting for it to arrive. I sold my last car (997TT) to a USA rennlister in 2019 and it's incredibly easy to move the car from Canada to USA. The digital speedometer and odometers can be toggled between miles / kilometers / mph / kph in the PCM.
If driving the car over the border yourself, all you need is to show up at the border with the bill of sale, proof of ownership, the letter from Porsche and a credit card to pay your 2.5% import duty. If you prefer shipping the car, many vehicle shipping companies offer the import paperwork in-house for a turn-key shipping & customs process. We used TFX International https://www.tfxinternational.com/ to ship my 997TT from me in Toronto area to the buyer in Seatlle WA, it was seamless door to door delivery.
I have a spreadsheet which documents the majority of the services completed since new. I have diligently maintained the car and prepared a detailed service documentation package dating back to 2014 for any prospective buyer to review.
This car is accident-free and has all-original paint verified with paint meter; no stories or claims in its history.
2012 Cayman R details:
- 29,800 km / 18,625 miles
- Platinum silver metallic
- 6 speed manual transmission
- XCZ Sport shifter
- XLF Sports exhaust system
- P75 Bi-xenon headlights
- 640 Sport chrono
- XDA Wheels painted black
- 445 19 inch boxster spyder wheel
- 480 6-speed manual transmission
- P77 sport seats
- 342 Heated seats
- 573 Automatic A/C
- 585 Cupholder
- 619 Bluetooth interface
- 672 voice control
- 680 BOSE sound
- 870 Universal audio interface
- P24 PCM including navigation
- 085 64L fuel tank
- Extensive Xpel Ultimate Plus PPF recently installed 2021 (car had partial front PPF since new, which was removed as part of this work); entire front clip, fenders, headlights, mirrors, side skirts, rear hips around side air intakes, and lower rear bumper behind the rear wheels all covered in PPF; as a result, the paint is in exceptionally good condition with only very minor imperfections
- Xpel PPF is under warranty until 2031, and the warranty is transferrable to the new owner. Invoice for the work is included in the documentation package
- Paint and PPF is ceramic coated
- Tinted side & rear windows
- Recaro Pole Position Classic seats (I bought them new in 2021). These are the ABE/TUV approved version, designed for road use and feature beautiful leather with pepita fabric inserts. They are mounted on BBI sliding seat bases. Purchase receipt is included. Information on the seats can be found here: https://www.recaro-automotive.com/en...e-position-abe
- The original heated sport seats were removed at 12,000 miles and are included in my asking price
- The airbag system has been programmed with Porsche PIWIS system to bypass the seat airbag sensors; all other airbags are active and there is no airbag warning light on the dash
- Minimal imperfections and stone chips thanks to front end PPF coverage since new; there are very few minor imperfections in areas on the front end and rear hips where PPF wasn't previously covering (but is covering now)
- Interior is in mint condition, and everything works as it should
- The Recaro Classic seats I purchased new in 2021, and are still in as-new condition
- The original heated sport seats are in excellent condition; the driver side has some minor wear on the bolsters commensurate with 12k miles of use when I removed them. The passenger side is mint and basically looks like it's never been used
- There are no outstanding issues or deferred services that need to be addressed; car will be delivered to new owner having just had its 4 year major service & all new brakes installed
- Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires date code 2019, with approximately 6000 miles on them
My price is $78,000 USD, minus a 2.5% discount to cover the USA buyer's duty owing at the border = $76,050 USD net price to buyer, and avoid the BAT buyer premium. My asking price includes the Recaro Pole Position Classic seats as pictured, along with the original heated sport seats. I am open to offers if the buyer wants only the original seats and I keep the Recaros.
I am happy to answer any questions the RL community may have. Once the BAT listing is about to go live, I will need to take down this ad. Thank you,

Just an update that I've received a quote for import & transportation from TFX International (https://www.tfxinternational.com/). TFX is both a specialized high-value automobile shipping company, as well as US registered importers, therefore they handle both the shipment and the import process on behalf of the buyer.

-
- Insured, enclosed door-to-door shipment from Toronto, Ontario Canada to Charlotte, North Carolina USA (arbitrary destination, but the distance covers the majority of the mid-west and east coast of USA from Toronto)
- Total cost $3,047.19 USD including fuel surchage and insurance up to $250,000 vehicle value
- All Canada-to-USA import documentation handled in-house by TFX included in the price

Here's a link to a Google Drive folder with 300+ photos I took of the car this afternoon. I'm not much of a photographer but these photos do present the exact excellent condition the car is in.

Do you have the actual Letter of conformity from Porsche? Without this, you cannot use TFX. Recently, PCNA have been sticklers with sending LoC unless owner is moving to US (or visa versa)

I used TFX International in 2020 to import my Cayman R from Canada back to Austin, TX (was sold new at the Austin dealership) and they handled everything. Would use again.

Thanks Zach, they are definitely a great carrier. Totally smooth process with them when I sold my 997TT to a USA buyer back in 2019.
As for the question about the letter of conformity, I followed up with PCNA today and indeed it seems they've tightened up giving sellers the LOC compared to when I asked for one in 2019. At that time, I called them, asked for the letter of conformity and they emailed it to me.
PCNA confirmed for me this week that the car has no open recalls, but that the letter can now only be issued to someone with proof of US residence (or, if a Canadian can show proof of relocation to the USA). So the buyer will need to make the Letter of Conformity request to PCNA. I have the fellow at PCNA's direct contact info, and the letter can be emailed to the buyer directly from PCNA. Obviously I would make it a condition of the sale that the buyer is able to secure this letter from PCNA before payment is made in full and the ownership changes hands.

They probably had people making counterfeits. I bet the buyer of a Canadian vehicle could get one, if they provided proof of the purchase. Buyer's responsibility IMO.

I suspect it's less to do with counterfeiting letters, and much more to do with the constant stream of Canadian cars moving to the USA as a result of the persistent weak Canadian dollar / strength of the US dollar. I imagine PCNA had someone there fielding constant requests and sending letters as a full time job LOL! It does kind of suck that we lose so many cars into the USA market due to the exchange rate, but at the same time we do get a 15 year import rule instead of USA's 25 year import rule - which allowed me to buy my 997.1 GT3 RS Euro Clubsport at a very fair price, so it all works out.

Buyer should be ready to import it with registered importer in case LoC cannot be sent.

Very nice example of Cayman R! I would love to add it to my garage. I'm not clear on the import process from Canada and approximate shipping cost to CA ? Does the shipping company handle all the necessary paperwork and fees? If LOC is not available from PCNA how does the car enter US? I would need to register in CA and pas smog test including all oem emissions equipment. Thank!

- Simplest path is we get the Letter of Compliance from Porsche; I provide you a bill of sale in your name, you contact PCNA (I have the person & direct line to call) and request the letter, they email it to you, and then you use any transport company that offers Canada to USA shipping services. As noted earlier in the thread, TFX International is top notch and they successfully shipped my previous 997TT from me in Canada to the buyer in Seattle, WA.
- If we cannot get the LOC from Porsche for whatever reason, then you would use a Registered Importer to import the car. They charge anywhere from $400 to $700 to complete the process. The car has to be shipped to their facility first, and may have to sit for up to 30 days before being released. This is the time period NHSTA has to inspect the vehicle and ensure it is compliant with US regulations including emissions (which it is, USA and Canadian cars are identical). I understand that most often, the Registered Importer gets authorization to release within a few days of the car arriving, but there is a chance it has to sit for the full 30 days.
I just purchased a 997.1 GT3 RS from a gentleman in western Canada who's business is importing / exporting cars to and from the USA. If you're in California, he would be a great resource to support the transaction and handle the process. I cannot PM you as your account is too new and you haven't paid for a membership. Please email me at if you'd like to discuss further. Cheers!
