Description:

Hello all.  I'm listing for sale my 1989 928 GT, black on black, all original paint and interior (only non-original items on the car are the Porsche Classic radio and nav and the GTS shift ****).  Car has just over 107,000 miles. I have had it for over 4 years now, and put just over 10,000 miles on it.  It's a wonderful driver and while I can't say for certain at least to me it seems like it drives very much like new.

The GTSs get all the attention, but in my opinion (and that of many who know the cars), the GT is the car to have. It has 326 hp stock due to more aggressive cam profiles v. the S4, and is lighter.  The motor does not have the oiling issues the 5.4 in the GTS does, and it LOVES to rev. It's pulling happily and sounds awesome at 6800 RPM.

With the more aggressive rear ratio (3.15 v. 2.74 in the S4 and GTS I think), the car just feels a lot more alive to me than any other 928 I've driven.

For those not in the know, the 89GT is different than the 90/91 GTs.  It is the closest the Club Sport model that just a handful were made and given to the Porsche factory racer.  The GT does have a/c and a radio, it is still the closest in spirit (and weight!) with no airbags, etc.  This car has the Club Sport wheels -- crazy story there. Like many, a P.O. dumped the Club Sports in the odd 16" size in the late 90s.  The next owner tracked down a set of the rears as the last OEM set available in Germany, and bought a set off of a 944 Turbo on Ebay for the fronts.  Car has the original GT spacers for the wheels as well.

The car has been reliable during my ownership.  Work I have had done:

1. Oil change every year.
2. Transmission oil, rear end oil and coolant changed in 2018.
3.  Water pump, timing belt, Porken tensionr in late 2021, plus new coolant again.
4.  Passenger door switch.  Sunroof switch.
5.  All original speakers reconed, and Porsche Classic stereo and nav installed ($6k+ in work).
6.  Portions of the manifold/hoses redone to address an idle hunt.

Everything on the car works except for:

1. "Intense" windshield cleaner (the supplementary one).
2. Cruise control stalk was broken off by a P.O.
3. Rear hatch release on driver's side (passenger works).

Cosmetically the car is in great shape. No dents, no rust.  Only issue is that the anodization has flaked off the Club Sports and they do need a refinish.

Car has the complete tool kit, the jump post cover(!), and the Porsche air compressor.  It was optioned with the rub strips, the rear a/c and the Boge shocks.  Non-sport seats.  Have three binders of records going back to the late 90s.

The headlight motor appears to have died just yesterday but I will get that fixed before sale.

I love the car but time to move on (considering a Lotus Emira). I've had a lot of cool cars -- V12 Vantage, Esprit Turbo, V10 M6, and this one is special.  Totally over engineered and it feels that way.  Comfortable as a highway cruiser but underrated as a sports car as well.  3400 lbs doesn't seem like so much these days....

I did have it listed on BaT back in the spring. Link to the auction and longer description and pictures here:

I go back and forth on selling it - as you can see I turned down $40k on BaT.  My asking price is firm.  I think these cars will be worth as much as the GTSs in the coming years (a low mileage example just went for $89k on BaT).  They really are the standout in the 928 line in my opinion -- more power than the early light models, and lighter and more eager than most of the later cars.

If she doesn't sell, I'll just keep on driving her...lol....Happy New Year.

I know no one asked for my advice, but you have to add better photos. 1 pic and the car is in the rain. Not even showing the full car. I'm sure it's worth the 50k but you gotta take 50k photos lol.
