Some history:
This Cabriolet was originally purchased by a Miami, Florida resident. Original color was red.
In 1977, a long term owner who lived in the Atlanta area purchased the car and retained it until 2000. This owner meticulously maintained the car, and kept a sheaf of service records that date back to 1977 that come with the car. A complete ground-up restoration was performed in 1980 with Jay Clark of Import Dynamics. Included in the restoration were new floor pans, battery box, and longitudinals.
The car collected a number of first place trophies at Concours events sponsored by PCA, including the Peachstate Region Rennfest and other Southeast area region shows. The Cabriolet was honored with the Peoples' Choice award at the 1986 Rennfest, and was featured in articles in the Oct 1986 and May 1990 issues of Porsche Panorama magazine.
The engine was overhauled in 1993 by Ray Morgan. A new 912 case and a 1750 cc kit were used in the rebuild. Weber carburetors replaced the old Solexes.
More recently the car was under the care of Pasadena area owner in Southern California, where it was very well-maintained. The engine was rebuilt in 2007, with new pistons, refurbished heads, new generator, and overhauled carburetors. The transmissions was rebuilt at this time, including new synchromesh, new clutch, and a taller 4th gear. The front suspension was rebuilt in 2009 and a new starter was fitted in 2011.
Since 2015 the Cabriolet has rarely been driven. There was a broken steering bushing repair in 2015 and an oil change in 2018.
Thanks for your interest in the Cabriolet.
The car is still available, and in storage in Beverly Hills. I will have to coordinate with the storage people if you'd like to see it. Let me know your schedule, when you can be in Beverly Hills, and we can figure out a time to meet.
Thanks.
