Default Macan Turbo vs. S...

Hi guys - I am sure this question has been tossed around elsewhere but I thought I'd punch it out there again.

I'm looking at a Macan variant as a DD to balance out the incredible 987.2 Spyder in my stable.

Any thoughts from owners here on Turbo vs. S? Anyone wished they'd purchased the other from the one they bought? Noticeable difference in power? Nice options standard in Turbo that you'd have to pay for in S? Must have options?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts...

I picked up a turbo and am very happy I got it over the S, there is a power difference as the turbo is .5 sec quicker to 60. The standard options on the turbo drops the cost down if you tried to option with some of the same equipment. The turbo also has larger brakes and different clutch plates in the PDK. Many state money being why they go for the S which I understand, but if money is not a option, get the turbo. If you are asking, you know you will wonder if you should have gotten a turbo if you get the S. Just my two cents

Hey,

Haven't seen you for a while and both 997s are gone...

I have not driven a turbo, which I'm sure is faster. The question to ask yourself is whether you can justify the CAN $30000 more for 0.6 second faster 0-60 and some extra options.

For me, Macan S in my stable is for wife and daughter day to day city commute. 0-60 is unimportant. I use it sometimes to pick up people and grocery. Again, absolute straight line acceleration is irrelevant as that's what my sport cars are for.

Either way, both will fit perfectly fine in your collection.

I went with the turbo for a few reasons - the upgraded interior is something I desired and would have been close to cost with the S AND I love the torque the turbo is capable of generating. Don't get me wrong. I test drove the S and thought it was enjoyable - but the Turbo made me feel like I was driving something special.

Depends on what you are after.
I am coming off a 911c2s cab and have the Macan S now for past 2 months.
I needed seating for 5 and 0-60 was not that important at this point. Handling and fun, of course, still were prerequisites so I went with the S and am happy so far.

Tx guys - my thoughts are to go with the Turbo as well. For this car I like the interior, brakes etc... Now to find one.

Tim - great to hear from you . I've not seen you for a while. From your post it sounds like you sold the .2 GT3 RS, correct? What colour for the 16 Club S?

Stop by the BBC sometime. It would be great to see you. And the drive has gotten somewhat more spirited that a few years ago. Nothing crazy, just engaging.

(I meant both of your 997s are gone...)

I still have the GT3RS, don't think I will ever sell it, as nothing can replace it moving forward. Also, still have the light blue club coupe.

16 GTS club coupe only comes in the Club Blau color (a new Porsche blue color), 60 made in celebration of PCA 60th anniversary.

Stopped going to BBC after my brother and 3 other friends got their cars impounded by police 2 years ago... for doing a spirited group drive among 30 - 40 Porsches, only slightly above speed limit (the whole group and other non-Porsches are doing the same speed), and not passing each other. Still feeling bitter about it.

Yep - understand 100%. I was right behind your guys and saw the whole thing. When leaving Squamish had I not be such a 'gentleman' and let them go ahead of me there is a good chance I would have gotten stung.

Still, would be great to see you. The about it.

The first one is a S and you said you wanted a turbo.. The second I think you can do better, they have a lot of options individual that you can get included with the premium plus package at a lower cost. I would also look for one with PTV included. The rest looked ok but had some stuff like voice that I would not get.
But it would be fun either way..

You need to drive both for at least 10km or more in varying conditions. I did my first test in an S and was terribly concerned about the performance of the car. Test drove the Turbo and confirmed my order.

Glad I went with the Turbo. Many items are standard on the Turbo and optional on the S you need to go onto Porsche Canada's configurator and spec out both cars. By the way, the Air suspension is magnificent.

Macan will complement you Spyder, just perfect, I got one recently in addition to the Cayman R.

I got a Macan S Diesel. HP wise way lower than the S, but the torque is wonderful. And 200-220km/h is easy, yesterday speedo showed 255km/h (admittedly downhill). Not sure what the Turbo would give me in addition, but a friend has one and he is happy with it. Everybody to his own taste...

Against all forum wisdom I kept the standard suspension (no AS or PASM or PTV) with 18 inch rims. That is really fun, limit might be a bit lower than with the PASM 20 inch set-up, but the break away is so nice and controllable with the car, one can throw it around quite a bit

Yes - understood. I drove them both and liked them both. I drove the Turbo FIRST in attempt to see that IF I did go with the S, would I be wishing for the Turbo etc... and frankly I'm not sure. Both have got enough spit to get impounded by the local traffic authorities. The S I drove was full leather with a wood package. Would want the Spyder wheels and maybe some red seat belts in the front but short of that I think I could "live" with the S. The Turbo air suspension and bigger brakes are a nice option but for 20K, a year down the road, would it matter? It's interesting now Christian that you are up grading to the Turbo. This may influence my decision. Did you get into situations where you needed the extra "Viagra" under the hood?
