Why does this say a diesel was announced at launch? What did I miss?
Just revealed a few weeks ago at the LA Auto Show, the Macan crossover is being launched with a pair of twin-turbocharged V6 engines (a 3.0 with 340 horsepower and a 3.6 with 400 hp) and a six-cylinder turbodiesel with 258 hp. But smaller engines, according to emerging reports from Autocar and Auto Express, are on their way.
Word has it that Porsche is preparing a 2.0-liter turbo four with 280 horsepower and a diesel with the same displacement and cylinder count, engines that will power new entry-level Macan models that will slot in beneath the existing Macan S, Macan S Diesel and Macan Turbo. While the diesel is tipped to be ported over from the Volkswagen parts bin, the four-cylinder gasoline engine is said to be under development by Porsche itself, which could mean it will have a boxer layout.

It was announced long time ago that there will be a Macan diesel from the introduction, although only in Europe for now.

The only problem IMHO is that they took the wrong engine. It should have been the 3.0 BiTDI with 313hp. That would have been a perfect match with the Macan.

At this moment, Audi has a more powerful diesel in the Q5 than Porsche can offer in the Macan. For some reason, I think that is wrong.
It's not that the 245hp engine isn't adequate for the, but I feel when I would buy the Macan diesel S, it's a step back from my current Audi SQ5 and that's is a strange feeling when you pay a $20k premium for it...

That is the standard 3.0 TDI 258hp they also use in the Cayenne diesel. IMO they should have taken the Biturbo engine, which Audi uses in the SQ5 here in Europe.

substitute "$hitty" in place of "strange" and you'll be spot on!

Yes you are totally right
The only reason i can think of, why Porsche doesn't have use that engine is because of PDK. It's the only Audi 6-cil diesel that isn't available with a dual clutch transmission. Instead, Audi uses the 8-speed ZF automatic in all cars with this engine (same as BMW). Maybe because of too much torque??

Yes, exactly the same as that diesel engine, but the diesel produces it already from 1450rpm, so maybe that is the problem? i don't know. I'm not that technical haha. Just giving some thoughts. It's something I noticed. Audi also uses a 7-speed dual clutch with most engines, except for that particular engine...

The 550tq number in the 991 turbo isn't ever going to be used for towing. Using that torque in a vehicle which may tow significant weight will put more stress on the drivetrain, and wear the clutches if equipped with PDK.
To be honest, I'm surprised the towing capacity for the Macan with PDK is so high. Not that I will ever use it...
