Default Jumping Tach and Speedometer Needles

The other day I was trying to program some new opener codes in the HomeLink control buttons in my 2022 Macan. As you recall, the procedure is done with engine off and the key switched to the “power on” position. It often requires several attempts to be successful. During one of the attempts, with the “power on”, both the tach and speedometer needles would rapidly quiver from their zero position thru about a 30 degree arc. This would last for about 10 seconds then they would return to their zero positions. This phenomena has repeated a few more times when I turn the power on, wait for the seat and steering wheel to reach their stored positions before cranking the starter. It doesn’t happen with every start up.

Any ideas? I taking it to the dealer for some maintenance work and have asked them to investigate or troubleshoot as I am still under warranty.

What you describe has happened several times on my car (2024 Macan S) but I haven't done anything about it or asked the dealer.

Default Dealer duplicates issue

My car is in for maintenance and I mentioned the jumping gauge needles. They replied,

”Good news, we saw the instrument cluster issue happen here and took a short video, we will get this to info Porsche and see what they would like for us to do, thank you

--Brett Weldon Porsche Austin

I was told they got the problem to appear several times, even while the engine is running. They now await advice from PCNA, Software update or reflash or replace the instrument cluster.

The new instrument cluster seems to have solved the problem.

I've only seen this happen a few times in 15 months, so it's unlikely to happen when the dealer looks at the car. They're likely to say "unable to duplicate condition at this time," and I will have wasted a good two hours of my time.

i wouldn't have made a special trip to the dealer for this problem. But since I was going in for and oil and spark plug change, I asked them to check it out. If they found nothing this time, but if it failed later, I wanted it recorded in my service folder that I pointed it out during the warranty period. Surprisingly and luckily for me, it acted up with them and a new cluster resolved it under warranty.

I'll wait a while. I have almost 3 more years of warranty left.

If you're taking the car in anyway, I would ask them about it. I have the same problem but I see it only rarely. So, unless you're warranty is near expiration, I wouldn't bother making a trip to the dealer just for this.
