Can you thread it though the hole in the rivet and knot it so it doesn't pull back through?

A good upholstery shop might be able to fix it for a reasonable price. Can't hurt to check around.

When I described the part to a local Porsche parts department a few months ago, they called them the "rear cargo deck cables", said they were currently out of stock, and quoted me about $16 per cable. I also searched ebay and amazon, but it seems that 3rd parties only sell the tonneau privacy cover and cables as a set, for $250 to $450. depending on condition.

So I went to the local Walmart, found a roll of thin black nylon cargo cable in their arts & crafts section, and made my own replacement cables. It took 2 attempts to get the length perfect, and I used thin pieces of metal (similar to a thick paper clip) to prevent the loops from pulling apart. I initially tried hot glue, but that did not hold, due to the weight of the cargo desk. Here is the replacement cord I purchased ($1.97 for 18-feet):

I hope this helps!
