Just got me a 23 Macan and was out and about when I tried to input a destination into the Nav, I was surprised and a bit disappointed to see that the restaurant that I was wanting to go to was not in the Nav's Maps search area. In fact, I was sitting in front of the restaurant as I was testing the system to see how it reacted. It couldn't find it so I tried a few more places, nada. So I called my dealer about an update and he said it's not the Nav system in the car it's the Maps company. Does Porsche update the Nav system very often or at all?

It's Google maps (unless there are different map providers for different levels of PCM?). I haven't had any issues with mine ('23 Macan) except voice search is weird sometimes and gives me things nowhere close to where I'm searching.

Built in NAV maps for any vehicle are always outdated by a few months to a year even when they have the latest update. Waze, Google, Apple Maps etc through CarPlay is usually the most reliable unless you can’t get a cell signal. Even then you can get offline maps like Magic Earth / HERE for free that have up-to-date maps that are much better than the built
in NAV.

Thought all new Macans came with it by default. You can get it added for a small fee by simaservis or innovativesoft. They do it remote.
But if your in the US it should be default for 2023.

No problem. Magic Earth is kind of a hidden gem for offline NAV. Not too many people know of it but it has a simple interface and you can get offline maps for any country. Works with CarPlay/Android auto and has speedcams, traffic and decent routing.

If you install it how do you keep it updated?

The app will notify you if there is a map update when you open it on your phone. You can either choose to download it right away or postpone to later (eg at night). The app can also be setup to not use mobile data for map data if you have a limited data plan (eg Wi-Fi downloads). Maps are fairly large in size (entire USA is 16.5 GB), so you can select individual states you want downloaded if space is a concern.
