My C-Tek 40-206 MXS 5.0 just arrived today from Amazon. I plan to use it to charge my 2023 Macan S.
I am currently using a Porsche Charge-O-Mat to charge my 991.1. The Porsche charger is suppose to be able to self select AGM vs regular mode. I noticed the CTEK will need the user to select regular vs AGM mode. I believe my 2023 Macan uses AGM but not 100% sure. What will happen if I select the wrong charge mode? A quick google search says it will cause damage to the AGM battery or even explosion! Now I am worried…

I would not be in favor of a device that must be hooked to the battery but browsing Amazon I see the CTEK 56-870 which is alleged to work through the cigarette lighter. It has some glowing reviews and I wonder if anyone here has and uses one.

In about 1988 I bought the battery maintainer pictured below for use with my 928. I still use this classic battery maintainer for our 2008 Cayman. I have a CTEK for the 991 (AGM mode-snowflake symbol) and the Porsche Classic charger for our old 911, but there is something cool about this one.

I use my 40-206 through the auxiliary cigarette lighter in the foot well of my Spyder and it works flawlessly

If you use an AGM charger on a "flooded" lead-acid battery it will slightly overcharge it.

Nothing is going to explode.....
