Do you have Ceramic coating/ PPF or nothing?
#16
Would anybody use a mobile detailer to do ceramic coating? I was just thinking this might be a compromise to save some time but not sure if the quality of their work can be good when they do everything outdoors in this crazy heat. And can they do the job what other places need 3 days for in 3-4 hours?
On my Macan, I instructed the dealer not to do their wash and detail and my detailer only needed about 4 hours to do a single stage correction. I then took it to my PPF installer later to do the hood and headlights which took about two days. Then had it ceramic coated back home which took a couple more hours.
On my Cayman, it took about 8 hours to paint correct because I bought it used and previous owner clearly ran the car through tunnel washes regularly. Then I dropped it off for PPF of the front end which took about 3 days. I then had it ceramic coated like a year later which required a slight further correction of the un-PPF'd surfaces taking a total of about another 4 hours.
edit: I let my detailers work in my garage. They won't do ceramic coating under the sun. If you don't have at least a car port for the detailer to work under, then it may not be possible.

My 2022 Carmine S (Dec 23 2021) now at 13,000 miles, has lived outside in South FL
I have washed it perhaps 10 times, no wax or coating of any kind and still looks like new...The wheels, well that's another story.. I've cleaned the wheels more times than washed the car!
They get dusty in a few days and that makes the car look dirty
I'm thinking to have it detailed at the 2 year mark because depending on the 2025's if there is no ICE model, I will keep the 22 !

I do front PPF and ceramic on all my cars, even my Tacoma. I also use de-ionized water and a blower. It isn’t that these cars are collectible or that they’ll sell better, it’s because they’re easier to clean and they look new for a very long time. I live where snow, gravel and salt are the norm for much of the year. The hardest part is turning a new car over to someone else for a week before I get to drive it.
It’s really about what makes you happy, if I was less particular I’d skip the above and run them through the car wash.

Yes. Both
We have both on our 2023 Macan S. Our first Porsche. Not leased. Intending to keep for 5-7 years so I wanted the protection. If i was just leasing for 3 years would not do it. We did 3/4 PPF ( full nose and all 4 doors/mirrors) and then did full ceramic. Both are xpel.

So i just took delivery of my 2023 macan s in chalk and i am still torn apart.... It seem that the majority in this poll got some sort of protection. I am just calling arround to see how long they want to keep the car to do the coating and ppf.

I did both, the PPF on the front mainly for rock chips. A few months ago I noticed a little ding in the PPF that would have been a big rock chip for sure.
The ceramic coating makes it really easy to wash. It's not like the dirt rinses off, but a swipe with a wash mitt takes it all off without any scrubbing needed.

Now I have the car for few days I am starting to change my mind and tend to go and get the full protection. I think I will be ok to wait 1 week to get it back. 2 questions:
- Anybody regretting getting PPF (starting to yellow, swirl marks, paint damage after removal etc.)
- Are there any recommendation for a good shop in the LA area
I wish I would have listen to the advice not having it detailed at the dealership. It all makes sense now!!
EDIT: With lots of back and forth I decided to go for ceramic coating and just headlight and rear bumper loading area PPF. Was thinking God forbid if there is an accident and I spend $3k for the front PPF all that money will be gone and I have to spend extra money to remove all the ppf. If I get a nice ceramic coating and protect the 2 areas, it will be more than enough for me. Just need to find a decent shop to get it done. The separation anxiety is completely gone :-)

After lots of back and forth, I booked an appointment for ceramic coating (ceramic pro ION) with 7 years warranty. As much as I think I need PPF I am just afraid when there is a small accident or bigger scratch, the entire PPF has to come off and reapplied. When I apply it now it will cost me another $2700 and I don't really want to spend this money. I think ceramic will help my car clean and I somehow have to overcome my OCD to live with the rock chips lol
