Default Macan PDK annoyance compared to other 911/718 PDK

I will try my best to ask and explain but I may not do a good job of it... so excuse my horribly written post. lol

My 718's (have had numerous models) and 911 PDK paddles "actuated" damn near telepathically but my 2018 Macan GTS always had a lag between the time you pulled a PDK lever to the time the transmission actually shifted. I've heard people say the bus speed is slower in the Macan and/or the PDK (TCU) in the Macans is not really PDK in the same sense as the Porsche "cars". It always annoyed me in my Macan GTS and I got tired of asking tuners to make a PDK tune for our cars. I just dealt with it.

Fast Forward to 2023..... my 2018 Macan GTS was totaled and I ended up with a 2023 Macan T (long story... needless to say I don't own it anymore and have ordered a 2024 Macan GTS). The Macan T PDK paddles actuated JUST LIKE those in the Porsche cars. Instant shifting, no lag, would do what I wanted, exactly when I wanted it. LOVE-LOVED-LOVED it!!!

So... my question to those with the newer GTS's.... is the actuation of the PDK paddles instant or is there a lag like I described above? Maybe someone with an older GTS like I had that now has a newer one can chime in? My question isn't about how quickly the transmission shifts....it's about how long it takes from the time you "actuate" a paddle to the time the transmission shifts.

With my 2018 S model, it is instantaneous.

With my last 981 Porsche Boxster (2014 model) I had also an issue with the lag. I could never understand why people praised the PDK that much until I drove several other porsche models which had full functioning PDK. I assume this might be car specific. It seems in some cars it randomly dosent act it way it is supposed to act and maybe there is an issue with the transmission which doesn't allow it to function properly. I don't think it is model specific.

The PDK in the Boxster / Cayman is a Porsche PDK

The one in the Macan is an Audi-derived unit that Porsche tweaks to their spec.

My '21 Macan GTS shifted very quickly under heavy acceleration (although not as quickly as the PDK in my Cayman GTS 4.0)...more slowly under more subdued driving conditions.

This with my '22 Macan GTS.
I don't have a Porsche "sportscar" with PDK for comparison.

Coming from a GT3 and GT3RS PDK-S, I find this PDK to be slow and lazy. I really enjoyed how the shifts in the GT cars would BANG into gear. This Macan PDK shifts very delayed and very softly in comparison. I would love to hear any tips on how to improve this because I'm left very unimpressed with the shifting as it is now.

The PDK on our 2018 Macan turbo shifts slowly and smoothly. I don't use the paddle shifts unless I want to hold a gear as it is not fun to use them.

917???

REALLY!?!?!?

..maybe 971? Panamera?

AFAIK, the 917 was available ONLY with a standard transmission... (no PDKs back in the late '60s - early '70s...)

I meant 718 (Boxster/Cayman) not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that.

My '23 Macan S shifts almost violently instantaneously in Sport+ mode.

I recently drove my friend's 2024 Macan and noted that PDK felt much much better than the kit in my 2017. Not as good as My 911's, but it is getting in the ballpark.

I fixed whatever sloppiness my Turbo PDK had with this: https://flat6motorsports.com/product...-inserts-macan
Shifts are fast, crisp, and clean now. Best mod for money by far.

My 2023 shifts lightning fast. I have a 718 Spyder for comparison and the Macan shifts at least as quick in sport+ mode.

Macan has the dry plate Audi DSG but Porsche still calls it a PDK, which technically it is.
Other Porsches have the wet plate "real" Porsche PDK.

I one one of each (2022 Macan and 2018 Panamera). The "real" version shifts much smoother, but I find responsiveness to shifts or speed of shifts no different between the two. The Macan tends to grab 2nd gear really hard, which has been discussed here as being normal for the Macan box.
