Why is Porsche charging nearly $3000 for special colors?
#16
Because they can? Porsche's marketing department is an expert in making us spend money on options. You may also ask why the same wheels in a subtly different colour are $3,000 extra or tailpipes in diff colour are $1,000.

Advanced
As John981 said, it's a major hassle to paint one car a different colour.
When i ordered mine production was flat out and they'd suspended PTS; as it turned out a wrap was cheaper too with the added advantage that it protects the stock paintwork.

What is the most basic definition of “Marketing”?
It’s to convince you that they have something you need. The fact you never knew you needed something until they convinced you you can’t live without it.
Ever notice how few Carmine Red Macans are out there for resale? Very few. Ever notice how many black Macans are out there for resale?
When I found and bought mine it just happened to be red.

Porsche is really good at getting (us) their customers to open our wallets, and color can make a car very special. I am one of those customers, having ordered Lava Orange, two Python Green and one Mamba Green. Hate to say it, but in a world of black, white and grey, there’s something special about a Porsche painted the color of Skittles candy!
Does PTS cost them much more, no. Same deal with deviated stitching. Thousands of dollars to change the roll of thread on the sewing machine, but damn it makes the car look good, special and exclusive.
And you gotta love when you go to trade-in the car and they use the exact opposite tactic of why they sold you the color and asked you to pay more. Oh, Lava Orange and Mamba Green are hard to sell and bring less money. Yeah - Right!!!

Miami Blue is now $13,150. Glad I found one when I did. You would think they’d have paint lying around.

They don't even need to line them up or batch them together.

100% exclusivity is what you are paying for.
