Default New brakes/a lot mor pedal

I just put new pads and rotors on a 2016 Macan S. Not my car, I detail her two Porsches and did this to save her some money, dealership wanted 2500.00. I also flushed the fluid. When it came in the pedal would travel almost to the floor, now the pressure point is almost immediate. The pads and rotors were both extremely worn but I’ve never known nearly as drastic a change in the pedal on any vehicle I’ve done brakes on. Does this seem right to you long time Macan owners?

I think you happened to get a really good bleed/ flush which I think does more for pedal feel than pads and rotors.

Thank you. Fluid was over seven years old, I did a good flush and bleed so I guess that explains it. First Porsche brakes I’ve done and I’ve never seen that much difference in a brake pedal, just wanted to make sure it was normal.

Yikes. Porsche calls for brake fluid flush every 2 years on the Macan. Probably overkill depending on mileage but 7 years is definitely too long.

Right. Since it isn’t my vehicle I’m not 100% sure it’s been seven years but at 60K on the original brakes and them worn down to nothing it’s a pretty safe bet. Would help explain the difference in the pedal.

Porsche is not the only manufacturer calling for brake fluid flushes every 2 years. Not sure about other makes but it's recommended by Harley Davidson for their bikes. I think this might be a fairly common maintenance item for most vehicles.

Since brake fluid is hydroscopic, flushing out the old is preventative medicine for the brake cylinders and master cylinder.

I think the drastic change you're experiencing is do to two factors: the potential age of the brake fluid and that you got 60k mi out of them. Macan brakes typically last 25-40k mi.

More like calipers - since hydraulic (brake) fluid is lighter than water, the moisture goes to the lowest points in the system, leading to "frozen calipers", where rust
develops between the caliper body and the piston.
