"Porsche and BMW have become the latest carmakers to announce plant closures in Europe because of a lack of parts from Ukraine, as the industrial fallout from the Russian invasion spreads."

"Porsche will close its Leipzig factory until the end of the next week, the Volkswagen-backed sports brand said on Wednesday. It comes after BMW on Tuesday night said several factories, including the Mini plant in the UK, would be forced to shutter. VW, which owns Porsche, has already closed two facilities in Europe and warned of further cuts because of scarce parts. As component flow from Ukraine dries up, carmakers are assessing the best ways to keep their European facilities running. Another major car brand in Europe told the FT it had sufficient parts to keep its factories running until next week, but may be forced to close afterwards. Carlos Tavares, Stellantis chief executive, said on Tuesday the impact on the company’s plants, which include sites across France, Italy, Germany, Spain and the UK, was currently “very limited” because it sources fewer parts than German rivals from eastern Europe"

Here's another link that shows PAG halting Macan/Panamera production @ Leipzig until end of next week... monitoring this as I have a Cayenne on order and will see if the current situation will spread and impact things further/across other models. Mentions wiring harnesses as a component sourced from Ukraine

Being discussed heavily in 992 and 982 forums.

RL’rs have confirmed with dealers this is a legit internal memo.

Anyone know if there are Ukraine or Russian sourced parts on the Macan?

Production start date pushed back 6 weeks because of plant shutdown... I'm sure it's just the start of delays...

Porsche dealership salesrooms are going to become ghost towns this (northern-hemisphere) spring...

It's called war, brother. War disrupts life in general. Add sanctions, the unavailability of the tiniest to the most critial parts and pieces from all different regions of the world let alone their final assembly... Yeah. There's gonna be long lines waiting for new anything right now. And another side effect to all this? Spare parts! Watch what happens to the price of anything driveable in the next few months. If you don't already, take very good care of what you drive right now. It might need to last a little while. And I would recommend don't get rid of your current ride until you have the keys to something else in your hands first. Just my opinion.

So glad that I didn't "pre-trade" my 911.

I was thinking of selling my 911 soon because the prices and demand seem to be way up. Back burner, now.
Funny, I just contracted for a new garage door system anticipating the arrival of the new Macan. (Garage doors are also getting hard to get.) At least it'll be set up before I get the new car. IF I get the new car.

I dunno about that. You might be one of the last few... at least one of the affordable Macans. So depressing, I got lucky and found a good example (2017 S not perfect, but plenty of what I want) six blocks from my home a year ago. Now the average sale price of a used SUV is 30% higher at $40K. I kinda wish I had bought a 997.2 because there is no chance in hell now.

Good luck on that. In September 2020, I ordered a new garage door. It arrived 6 months later and was the wrong style! It took another 3 months to take delivery of the correct door, hence 9 months in total for the whole process.
I seriously doubt things are any better now.

Man, these first world problems/gripes/complaints are a bit hard to empathize with after reading 1.2M (and counting) Ukrainians are refugees.

Pimple on an elephant as the Russian economy is, these sanctions have already caused economic harm that may lead to a worldwide recession. Which would dramatically reduce demand. We may get all the Porsches we want. Maybe at lower prices.

How to time the bottom of the market? Wait until you can't afford to buy in. That's how you'll know things can't get any worse.
