Base vs S trim
#17
I often ask myself if a Base would be adequate and I have to believe that it would be for a commuter car. I have yet to decide on my next car but the Macan is on a list that also includes the A6 Allroad wagon and the Cayenne and the Q8. I'm replacing a base A8 with the 3.0 engine.
I think the issue I have with the Base - in terms of finding a pre owned model - is that they are often bare bones in terms of options and shod with some of the ugliest wheel offerings that Porsche puts out with tire sidewalls that resemble bagels. I think for this reason, I would end up gravitating to the S just to get more options that I'm interested in and a better look in terms of the wheel/tire package.

I had quit a few base model as loaners for a total of 2 months, I would never buy one.
The power is adequate, sure, but we don't buy cars that are just "adequate" otherwise we'll all be driving a Prius V, if you're considering a Porsche there's must be some kind of passion behind it (unless you're a realtor).
The I4 is not as smooth as the V6, you can feel a noticeable engine vibration under acceleration and kick down, and the noise is almost unbearable (some engines make noise, some engines make sound, the EA888 can only be best described as the former one).
If anyone of my friends is considering a base Macan I would honestly suggest them a SQ5 instead.

I just bought a 2022 base for occasional driving in super bad weather , my true daily is a 992 C4S
I honestly don't think the car is under powered , I got caught several times looking at speedometer over 90 , and was not trying to go fast
agree , it is more enjoyable in sport mode , less hesitation on start
This is my first SUV and it is a very good SUV for what it is
we had a snow storm yesterday 8-12 inches and drove Macan to work , and not a single slip and most roads were covered , and all my employees and my patients did not show up . Go figure

Some of us base owners don’t have “the need for speed” some of you have, but we do enjoy the handling and feeling of owning a quality vehicle like the Macan.
And we really appreciate those of you who remind us how bad our base Macan really is.

I just had a 2021 Macan base as a loaner car for several weeks while my 718 was being serviced and I really enjoyed it. Plenty of power for daily use and easy enough to tune if you really need a bit more.

If one is swapping one of Porsche’s excellent sports cars for a Macan (like I am), a base Macan would feel inadequate. So I selected the version that is somewhat easier to get an allocation for which is the S. I added all the performance options available and I am hoping it is not a dud. Hard to replace the drive feel of a 911 but I am hoping for a nice blend of comfort, performance and practicality.

Thanks. Glad to hear from a former 911 owner.
