I dumped them on my BMW. They were the type that required a special socket which often slipped. I even had to get towed once because I couldn’t change my tire. Way more trouble than they are worth.
I tell you a story about said key lug nuts. Had my old 6 gt3 stripped and ready for track alignment for track day weekend. Trailered from San Francisco to Milpitas(original location) unloaded and Tony asked me “You got the key lug nut?”…….. you know the rest of the story from there on so I’m all in on no freaking key locks!!!!!
getting a set of high quality wheel lock is the key, I have McGard wheel lock on my Mercedes and they works fantastically for over 50K miles, never have problem getting them on or off,
and you can order as many key as you like, I have one in the car and one in the garage at all time.
with the increase crime rate during COVID I wouldn't risk my $6K+ set of wheel over a $35 part.
$6ooo dollar wheels with the wheel lock key, in the trunk or glove box. One rock and a 1ooo dollar side glass and the thieves have your wheels.
I will support the above statement of “the only person wheels locks inconvenience is the owner”.
First thing I take off any of my new to me cars. plus really, they are taking the whole car.
It is snow tire season here soon. I help change at least 12 other cars, not from my house.
One of those people/freeloaders won’t be able to find their key for their wheel lock. One quick hammer 🔨 to a reverse nut remover, and I’ll get said lock off.
Five tiny bite marks on the side of the bolt.
And I’m a good guy. I’m sure the bad guys have way more sophisticated equipment.
I got my kit on sale….

Yep, a Gator grip pin socket and battery impact will soon then right off.
I'd be more pissed about them dropping the car back onto the $20k PCCB rotors than I would be about losing the wheels.
