Never having owned or driven a 911, I dont know what Im missing, but I find my Macan S to be plenty exhilarating for me. My finances open up in about two years and Ive been planning on buying a new 911 for quite some time. However, after owning my Macan S, Im not sure Id even be able to enjoy the extra performance of a 911.
Even though my Macan S is one of the more affordable and slower Porsches produced, I have no problem going fast. 100 mph comes plenty soon enough and Ive even gotten it up to 153 mph once so far. Even at that speed, the vehicle felt rock solid. If it werent for the view of the outside world moving so fast and the wind noise, Id never guess that I was going so fast.
A Macan Turbo or whatever the top tier Macan will look like in 2 years might be what I end up getting. The overall usability while still having enough performance to get me in trouble make the Macan the perfect vehicle for me.

First the steering wheel is on the wrong side, and leaving the 992C4S for a ... and yes, I do have a 992C4S and (the wife) has a 2020 Macan S...I'd go for a Touareg V8 with air suspension since they still sell them over the pond.
Wow sorry to see you leave the 992... The Macan S is a good car, much smaller than a Touareg, doesn't tow as much nor has the ground clearance (if any of that is of importance) but is more nimble. What it isn't is a 992 yet your bank balance will definitely improve

The Touareg is a great car, but too big for what I need. I dont need the towing capability or much more ground clearance so I think the Macan Turbo will do what I need it to. Should still be plenty quick enough on the daily commute to pass slower traffic whilst putting a grin on my face (maybe slightly smaller than in the 992).
The steering wheel is definitely on the right side!
The trade in price and subsequent change in monthlies makes the change less painful and in this new car I get to see all the dials when Im driving!

A rather longer list than I had hoped of annoying things but driving down 315 miles for the 50th Anniversary of the Alaska Chapter of the PCA was just sweet. The highlight was as I was chasing my friend's 991 TT there were a couple of kids on an ATV by the side of the road and nearly flipped over as they both tried to stand up and give us a 👍 as we zoomed by. Every encounter with the car is a pleasure for the eyes, with the back side being an ode to Freddy Mercury's "Fat Bottom Girls You Make the Rocking World Go Round". Getting ready to do the first oil change and put winter tires on soon as temps are down to 34F.

Good question. Prior to the Allroad, I had a first generation Macan Turbo. The Allroad was a very nice car, but every time I brought the 911 in for service and was given a loaner Macan I realized how much I missed owning a Macan. I think that I still would have done the same trade if I hadn't hit the deer. It just made a lot of sense to pare down to two cars from three. I needed a four door vehicle for my real estate business, and my wife preferred driving her 997 Coupe to my 991 Cab, so there was no way we were going to end up with two 911s or a Macan and a 991. Also, we were in the midst of planning our retirement move from PA to CA, and having to deal with just two cars seemed easier. It all worked out very well.
Well, so far 10 days into Macan ownership and Ive put just over 800 miles on the clock! First weekend saw a trip up to Crainlarich to walk up Ben More, followed by a trip up to Nairn to pick up a set of Winter wheels from an absolute gentleman. Initial thoughts: Superb fit and finish as you would expect. The 18-way seats are more comfortable than the similar 18-way seats in the 992, specifically the thigh bolsters. Panoramic roof is awesome - floods the interior with light, and when opened lets in the cheeky exhaust note from the sports exhaust. Air suspension is very impressive, especially down my un-tarmacked road, even with the 21 wheels the ride is sublime. Coming from the 992 not surprisingly I found the comfort setting a bit wallowy, however, once I put the car on Sports+ suspension and lowered ride height this tightened up the handling. It will never be a 911, but it handles pretty well for a 2 tonne vehicle. Some great roads around Nairn where I got to feel the flow of the car and learn more about its handling characteristics Returning 30 mpg on a long run with a gentle right foot. 75 litre tank returns a pretty decent range. It takes a fairly long press of the accelerator to really stir the beast in normal mode but the car wafts past slower traffic effortlessly. Looking forward to exploring the Sports and Sports + modes. So far, really impressed 👍
@tgcrun how does the new one feel compared to the 2015?
The 2015 was a Turbo and the 2020 is an S. When I ordered the Turbo I only ordered a few options to stay within my budget. For the S, I decided to go with luxury/appearance over performance, so I ordered things like full red/black leather, Burmester sound system, stainless skid plates, Chalk paint, etc. Both cars are great, but between the luxury options and the Burmester system, I'm enjoying the 2020 more.
