OSHP Chase 14 Year Old In Stolen Porsche Macan
"A 14-year-old teen accused of crashing a stolen Porsche SUV on Interstate 275 has died, according to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office. Alexander Lara was pronounced dead Tuesday at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, a coroner’s report shows.
A trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol spotted a speeding 2018 Porsche Macan on Interstate 275 just north of State Route 28 shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday night and attempted to chase it with lights and siren activated, according to Sgt Charles Jordan at OSP’s Batavia post. The trooper was unable to catch up to the SUV, according to cruiser video OSP released. The chase remained at a distance throughout the entire chase, which lasted about a minute and a half, according to Jordan, until the trooper came upon the crash after it occurred. Patrol officials said their preliminary investigation determined the teen was speeding in the SUV, which had been reported stolen, and lost control of it near the Wards Corner Road exit in Miami Township. The Porsche ran off the right side of the road and struck an embankment before coming to its final rest. State troopers have said the teen was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected, and airlifted to the hospital in a medical helicopter."

Without knowing anything at all about the 14 year old who stole the car - he also died. I couldn’t help thinking as I watched that the poor kid doesn’t realize he has only seconds left to live. Sorry folks - I’m not sympathetic to car thieves but still . . .

Anyone wondering what the trooper was doing prior to the chase? It appears to me he was stopping on the on-ramp in the lane waiting and then why was he driving on the shoulder of the road? I feel bad that a 14 year kid died because of bad choices. It's a shame.

Old addage: " You can tell a teen-ager but you can't tell 'em much!" When I was a teen-ager, I hit a 1/2 ton p/u while going about 60-65 mph in an Olds Super 88. I rolled it 3 complete revolutions, came to a stop right-side up with me ending up in the back seat with nothing but small cuts and a concussion. Of course, it was a complete total...and I was a complete idiot. As some sort of a payback, I've spent the better part of my life as an HPDE instructor teaching folks how to drive fast...safely.

Not many 14 year olds get the chance to be taught how to drive fast safely. Police officers could be taught to stop chases before someone crashes.
It’s a known risk — that someone being chased is likely to speed up and try to avoid being caught and may crash and hurt herself or others — versus an unknown risk that something worse will happen if the person is not stopped.

It's a sad event but, the choices the teenager made are what set this in motion. We can second guess police tactics after the fact all day long but, you could easily argue if they don't chase and stop them the possible outcome might be worse. Maybe the next vehicle they steal ends up with them shooting and killing the owner of the vehicle. No way of knowing what could/will happen one way or the other.

14 year olds should not be committing grand theft auto. Their parents should be teaching them right from wrong. the cops are not the problem. we need to stop blaming the innocent and cops for doing their jobs, and start holding these ******** who think the law doesn't apply to them accountable.
