Default windshield replacement $2,200.

I was surprised at the cost and trickle down on a windshield replacement. In addition to the glass (1,200.) you need to re-set the cameras and alignment. Big deal. I was trying to stay away from an insurance claim but at $2K + insurance claim it is.
Don't tailgate :-)

Crazy eh. My dad had the same thing happen to his on his way home from the 1000 km inspection from the dealership. Makes my 997 Turbo windshield replacement seem downright affordable lol

In some states insurance companies are required to offer either a $0 or a $100 deductible on glass coverage.

That high cost is precisely why auto insurance exists.
Your claim is a comprehensive claim and should not affect your premiums.

If your deductible is too high, change it.
We all 'self-insure" to an extent. If lower premiums/reduced coverage saves you some $, then you pay later when faced with a deductible.

Pay me now, or pay me later. Or hope nothing ever happens to your car.

Claim it, get it fixed and move on.

Arizona is one of the 4 states that requires a "full glass" coverage. $0.00 deductible and claims do not count against your policy. We go through 2 windshields every 3 years. It costs about $35. per year

Yes, exactly. Have made use of this a couple of times in Arizona through State Farm. Well worth the extra premium! Sadly, not available in many other areas of the country.

...and following too closely may have nothing to do with windshield damage.

I once had a windshield cracked by a stone thrown up by a vehicle going in the opposite direction. (that, or it was a meteorite!)
