Default Cargo Capacity Feedback

I am very interested in hearing plus and minuses from those who own 2019-2020 Macan's on actual usage on the cargo capacity. I am currently in a 2012 Audi Q5 and the cargo capacity is superior to the current model years Macan's, i totally get the fact that they drive differently hence Macan will get the gold star for performance and Fun factor . Curious to hear from those who have put the cargo capacity to use in real time

Well, my Cayennes could handle a week-long trip to the beach for two people and two dogs (barely), Macan can’t quite swallow that much (I’m talking internal capacity....not roof racks, trailers, etc.). I find the Macan is good for general utility (grocery and Home Depot runs, etc.) or a weekend trip, at least for how we use it.

We also have a Toyota Sienna though, so that’s our ‘go to’ when we want a comfortable higher capacity hauler for a week at the beach or similar.

Are you planning to have rear seat passengers for your long trips? The folded seats make a huge difference for the occasional large load.

The rear seats woudl not be used very often, however when I have previewed the cargo capacity in real time it just seems very limited when compared to our Q5

We had a 2011 Q5 and moved to a 2017 Macan S. The cargo area of the Macan is deceivingly larger then the Q5. My wife was convinvced that the Q5's rear was larger. So we took boxes from equipment we normally install in the back of the Q5 (full load with the seats up) to the dealer and loaded the same boxes in the Macan. The Macan could have taken another one of the boxes (with the seats still up_. The Macan floor is deeper into the Macan compared to the Q5. Depending on what you are hauling the Macan's rear can be more useable. After that demonstration the rear cargo area became a non issue for my wife.

So do the same thing, take some suite cases or something similar to the dealer and compare it to the Q5.

No where close to a Touareg.

Will definitely not handle 5 Siberians even if TOWMBO would allow that. Works for Costco and Home Depot with moderation, but is definitely more fun than a Q5 or 7

2020 here. When I bought mine last Nov, I requested they swap to the winter wheel package at the dealership. I was able to fit (barely) all four summer wheels in the back (rear seats down, of course). The biggest obstruction was the rear window.

There’s no question the Audi will have superior cargo space, but I think Porsche struck the perfect balance between form and function here.

If you spec the "Roof Rails" like we did, you can add the external storage containers later if you find you need them. An option available to you.

Concur with OliverK68 when I picked up my S in January, I had the back filled with summer tires (no rims) for the 450 mile drive home from Anchorage. A last comment, it alas doesn't have an opening rear hatch window - sorely missed.

The guys in thestraightpipes, two Canadians, do a storage container capacity rating in their Macan review.

Check it out!

Maybe they also have a Q5 review?

The Macan cargo area is somewhat smaller than my '14 BMW X3, especially in headroom towards the back because of the steeply raked roof. At the rear, the hatch opening is 43" wide, and 41" wide about halfway in, 27" high at the rear from the floor to the top of the hatch opening. With the rear seats down, the height above the edge of the seat to the headliner is 29". The depth with the rear seats down is very close to 6 feet. This is from measurements I took on I believe a 2019 model. Also, I think the rear seats fold somewhat flatter than the Q5, but not as flat as the X3. The X3 has about a 30" height in the back and compared to the Macan, about the same width and roughly the same height near the front of the cargo space, above the edge of the rear seat. The cubic footage is less on the Macan primarily I think because of the steep rake of the roof in back. I', 5' 11" and was able to lie in the back with the passenger seat all the way forward and the rear sets down, hence the six feet length of the cargo area mentioned above.
Hope this helps some.

Is it big enough? Hummm... underneath the rear floor, I have a tool kit for emergencies, a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher in that area just inside to the right. Perfect place. In the back, I removed the tray and laid down the rera seats. I then loaded one of those big suitcase with wheels, two overhead suitcases, two backpacks with laptops, books, et al, 2 pillows, a tub of dogfood, and a 72# pit bull. He had enough room to literally stand up when he wanted, move around. I even had his bedding right behind the front seats for him. This was in response to my son being admitted to a hospital 9 hours from us and running up to spend 8 days visiting with him till he was released.

There's plenty of room in this thing.

But not for 5 Siberians and their gear, nor going salmon fishing for 10 days with dip nets, vests, coolers, flares, shovel etc.

Moderate Home Depot (could be better if they had the opening rear hatch window like on my Touareg) visits and shopping yes, but it's neither a Q7 nor a Touareg in capacity or anywhere near towing.

The right vehicle for the right job, reason my 4.2L V8 Touareg air suspension will never be sold. I can substitute it for the Macan but never vice versa.
