Default Wireless Apple Carplay setup

Please could someone point me towards some how-to on setting up Carplay wirelessly in a 2020 Macan (which supports this). I can't seem to find this information.

If it's not in the manual you might want to call Porsche, they have been helpful when we have called in the past it with issues that needed them to push an update to the PCM.

Since wireless CarPlay uses WiFi to connect, I would start by connecting your phone to the PCM via WiFi. From the review below it sounds like it should then pop up.

Here's a article/review of the 2020 Wireless CarPlay - https://www.macrumors.com/review/por...eless-carplay/

If I understand this correctly, Apple CarPlay is invoked via the USB cable thus creating a separate path via WiFi for PCM communication/interaction. What I'm not clear on is how to get updates to the PCM (maps etc.) via WiFi (whether your using your home's or through your hotspot connection WITHOUT USING A SEPARATE SIM CARD).

Wireless carplay is just that no USB connection is active. You can keep your phone in your pocket and it connects to the PCM. Cars that typically support wireless carplay have a wireless charging mat in the console area.

Precisely, my understanding was that you connect via WiFi to the PCM and via USB to Apple CarPlay.

The question I have is, can you download updates/routes to the PCM without a separate SIM card either via your home WiFi or through your phone's hotspot?

I have had wireless CarPlay since first setting up my iPhone with the Macan and I have yet to plug in a cable between the two.

There doesn’t seem to be anything explicit in my manual.

Are you having issues?

Have you watched the video mentioned above? It clearly shows that to use CarPlay you connect via the USB cable.

If not then I'm totally confused.

I don't want to use CarPlay as I don't use Siri or any other kind of "assistant". So how does the vehicle differentiate between PCM and CarPlay? So if I don't want to use Siri and the map feature within CarPlay but the PCM one, how do I use one and not the other.

Lastly can one download updates or routes to the PCM via your home or phone's WiFi without using a separate SIM card?

The video is for a pre-2020 vehicle. Those did not support wireless CarPlay. For those you needed to plug in with the USB. But with wireless CarPlay, once it's setup you no longer need to use the USB cable connected.

Aha, thanx as it wasn't pointed out!

OK, so how do you use PCM and NOT CarPlay? And can you update PCM info via WiFi sans using a separate SIM? TIA

Apple actually has a page on the setup of CarPlay and since they want the same interface, this should work on the 2020 Macan to activate wireless mode.

"If your car supports wireless CarPlay, press and hold the voice-command button on your steering wheel. Make sure that your stereo is in wireless or Bluetooth mode. Then on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap Available cars, then select your car. Check your car manual for more information."

Thanx for that link. As long as I don't enable Siri all should be well and no conflict in whether to use PCM or CarPlay.

For my last question concerning using WiFi (without a separate SIM) can that be made to work?

There is a thread on here asking that same question already. Apparently the PCM code will only allow a map update with a paid (first year free) connect subscription using the imbedded SIM.
