Road trips are so good for the soul..... please post more pics.

You inspired me to put Devils Tower on my road trip list for next year.

Forgot to post this back in December. She looks a little different now with smoked side markers and tinted fronts to match the rears.

2017 Macan S in midnight blue metallic.

We got a foot of snow the other day and I loved driving around on the unplowed roads and parking lots. I just put it into Offroad mode and the car goes anywhere I point it.

I had been planning on buying a used 911 right up until I purchased my Macan S this December, but there seems to be fewer used 911’s around and the prices don’t appear to have dropped since the summer. I know a Macan is no 911, but driving my Macan S has really taken a huge bite out of my 911 hunger. It’s plenty sporty enough for the occasional spirited driving that I do. Also, I spent about half the money on my Macan that I was planning on spending for a used 911. The lower monthly car payment doesn’t hurt my feelings at all - and I don’t seem to miss the performance of a 911 all that much (at least not yet).

I really can’t say enough good things about this vehicle. The only thing I don’t like about the car is I can’t seem to keep my foot off the gas and my gas mileage is atrocious - as in 13-15 mpg atrocious!

Very nice post indeed. I too am wrangling with getting a used 911 vs a jack of all trades in the Macan. While I would love to get back into a 911, the simplicity of having 2 cars vs 3 has appeal as well. Would appreciate any additional thoughts.

I believe those are the standard OEM “Macan S” wheels

First and foremost, I’ve never driven or rode in a modern sports car - so I haven’t been spoiled by that experience. 15 years ago I used to own a heavily modified 1979 Corvette and when I was a kid, I drove a 1989 Mustang GT that my parents owned. A 2020 VW Golf that I rented for a week A few months back was faster and handled better than either of those cars.

So, when I got into a 2017 Macan S two months ago for a test drive, I was absolutely floored by the driving experience. It’s way faster and handles better than anything I’ve ever driven before. I’m sure driving a Macan S is nothing compared to a 911. However, to a guy that’s never sat in a 911 outside of a dealer’s showroom, driving my Macan S is an absolutely transcendental experience. Couple that with the fact that it can seat 5, has a bit of a trunk, and has some sort of an actual off-road competence and a vehicle just can’t get better.

For what it’s worth, I’m a 41-year-old divorced father of two middle school aged girls. Work also requires that I carry around a decent amount of tools. Since my divorce 2 years ago, I’ve been driving a 2003 VW beetle that I bought new for my ex-wife. In terms of storage and interior space, a 911 has about the same capacity and I could have made it work for me.

Since I haven’t been spoiled by driving anything better, my Macan S doesn’t feel like a compromise in performance. You might have a different experience than me.

Thanks, great post. I agree, the Macan is a fantastic car.

I have both a 991.2 GTS MY2018 and a Macan GTS MY2017. If I could only keep one car, that would be the Macan. The 911 is great, exhilarating, an iconic sports car, but the Macan is so much more practical yet so much fun as a DD.
