I just discovered the hold feature so now I'm curious what is the best way to blast off the line?
Will the transmission explode if you rev the engine in neutral then slam it in gear? How do you racers do it?

...be sure to note the language in the Notice section, particularly about increased stress on components (clutch(es),
transmission, entire drivetrain, etc.).
While Launch Control may be used, it beats the h*ll out of things.
Yeah - it's akin to revving the engine with a manual transmission, then dumping/popping the clutch...

I have Sport Chrono, have never done a hard launch and will never do a hard launch. Really tough on the drivetrain and just a pointless action for me.

Does the DME track launches in a PDK equipped Porsche? That would be something useful like overrevs in a MT car. I believe the Nissan GTR does track how many times the car has been launched, which is why I ask.

The launch control feels savage to anyone with a touch of empathy towards their car.
I used it a few times in a demonstrator at Silverstone, won't use it on my own.

Launch control is one thing. Revving it up in neutral and then slamming it into gear is another.

For the six-cylinder models, the theme of this question is thrill-seeking. Which is fine. I like the answers involving mechanical empathy - some folks have none, and I hope I never accidentally buy one of their cars.
For a base model, though, it can be a matter of safety. You can be rolling slowly, the PDK stubbornly hanging onto 2nd gear, and have a need to goose it - turning left out of parking lot into a rare gap in traffic, for instance. In most circumstances even the base model seems like a lively car, but not in this circumstance. There is a considerable delay while the car decides to shift into 1st and for the turbo to spool up. I guess I've learned to be cautious, but perhaps there's a strategy I can learn instead.
