It should connect and be the same as wired. What’s the difference, exactly? And why?
Yep, you’re right, CarPlay is via WiFi, Bluetooth is only used for the initial connection/negotiation then handed off to WiFi -- which in all generations used by CarPlay has more than enough bandwidth to offer lossless or whatever else. Not sure what the current specs are on this, I might look them up some time....

Default WiFi, not Bluetooth connects the wireless CarPlay

That’s interesting but the response isn’t right. The wireless CarPlay doesn’t operate using Bluetooth. It operates using WiFi. Bluetooth DOES compress audio and shouldn’t be used if there’s a wired alternative. But in this case wifi is used. And WiFi does not compress the audio at all. It’s the same as if there was a wired connection. So, again, still wondering why there’s an implication that wireless CarPlay has more compression than wired. It doesn’t make any logical sense.

It makes perfect logical sense for CarPlay to have it’s limitations on wireless. They want their product to work and not pause, skip, or buffer.

Apple CarPlay supports lossless audio via W-Fi up to 16-bit / 48 kHz. Therefore, Wireless CarPlay does not support hi-res lossless

Wired connection via USB-C with Tidal can play 24-bit 192kHz

Moreover, don’t forget that WiFi is half duplex, one transmission in one direction at once per antenna. To mitigate that, you need to have multiple antennas and to optimize the flux (all modern routers, phones, computers etc have several antennas indeed)
That’s another reason that explains why wired connexions are way better than WiFi ones.

There's no reason for that. Bandwidth required for audio streaming is a tiny fraction of what's available in a WiFi connection. As for the difference between 24-bit 192 kHz and 16-bit 48 kHz lossless audio in a car, all I can say is... A/B or GTFO. None of these standards have anything whatsoever to do with Bluetooth audio quality (or lack thereoif).

This thread has been totally hijacked. It was started as being about the OPs impressions of the new Turbo an devolved into a discussion about how the Burmester sound system sounds and works?

Seconding that, this thread needs to return to Owners’ Turbo Impressions. If someone wishes to start a new thread on whatever other Macan option or component, please do so.

It has been hijacked by arguments about how the infotainment works/should work, granted. But that's interesting in itself.

If you have a new Turbo in the garage and there's nothing else to talk about but audio and CarPlay and networking, then Porsche has a big problem on their hands.

I'd say right in-between the two!
