Default The Glamour of Endurance Racing

Porsche wins another 24 hour race.
Here's a few pics from this weekend at Nelson Ledges. I went along as crew for Colletti Motorsports, running an Acura Integra in ITA. The drivers were Steve Colletti, Bryan Golay, Bill Niemeyer, Bob Roth and Dave Volante. They were gridded 2nd in class, 9th overall. An early trip into the tire wall set us back to 31st, but quick work by the crew and fast, consistent drivers got us back to 2nd in class and 10th overall.

The overall winner was the ITE Porsche of Boxing Cat Motorsports out of Boca Raton, FL. They passed the leading Spec Miata with less than an hour left to take the overall win.

Pics:
1. Our car at the start.
2. Red flag for a car over the tire wall.
3. Why I didn't sleep. I call this "Bouquet of Generators"
4. Miata carnage
5. The same Miata later in the day.
6. Open air racing. The Rabbit rolled and hit a tree, the crew fixed it and sent it back out.
7. A tired crew.
8. Tire rub test / Celebration Lap. Anyone who finished gets a "victory lap"
9. The winning Porsche. 1986 911.

Even though the 911 sounded like a tractor at the end of the race, they were still able to turn a 1:13.5 in the last hour of the race. I think at one point they were several laps down to the Miata, but ran them down turning laps about 5 seconds faster than the second place overall car.

Which was the fastest Miata? If you tell me it's the wrecked one . . . it's no wonder! It was missing thirty pounds of body panels! Lol.

Now that Bonni is being candid, I could stand to lose some body panels myself.
(But I'm working on it...)

Groovey... I'm being tempted with an invite to drove a car there in ITA next year... my crew says F yeah - they find our usual sprint races absurdly boring!

Actually, come to think of it Mike, I've been losing a little weight lately. I hope this doesn't mean I'll have to add ballast to the racecar.

Nothing wrong with an awning over good tools.

I'm not looking to lose any panels, but maybe I need to acid dip the ones in place, or replace them with lighter materials.

1st Spec Miata was Puskars.
1st in ITA was Joe Plunkett's Miata - the Subway car.
