As 15 year old blends go, it is decent stuff.

I thought so. I'll look for it next time I'm in BevMo (discount liquor store -- kinda like a WalMart, but all booze). I haven't had Scotch in this house since the last time John visited (he's Scottish, lol).

I always preferred Glenlivet over Pinch. Single malt, very smooth.

I'm not a scotch expert by any means, but I tried Bushmills and kinda liked it. That's a scotch, right? I think I'll just wait until a large percent of the posters here come to a conclusion as to what the best scotch is (under 40 bucks would be nice), and then go buy it. You know, for in case Bob flies into town. Well, that is, if there's any left.

Bushmills is Irish, not Scotch.

Oh, so that IS the origin of the name. Someone told me I was wrong when I thought that. Hmph.

They're all whiskeys of one sort or another...but Scotch can only be made in Scotland...or I should say can be called scotch. Anyone can can make "scotch". They also generally use bourbon casks to age scotch..BTW.

And contrary to popular belief, bourbon can be made outside of Kentucky and still called "Bourbon"

You're talking to a Crown Royal drinker here, so I appreciate the education. Oh, to Mike's honor, I had a couple of dirty martinis last night. Let's just say, I slept really well.

There is no "best scotch". It is all about personal taste....or lack thereof for some people. Arguments about things like which is "better", a blend or a single malt serve only to divert the attention of those involved so that you can gain more of whatever is on hand! For me, it all depends on time of day, where, what else is served, with whom, cigars or not, etc. In some cases, it is a slight variation on the theme "Love The One You're With" for me. YMMV.

Like wines, you need to sample many and form your own likes and dislikes. To hell with everyone else! (I mean that in the most caring way...as the MT of HWFM Racing). Unfortunately, like the wine snobs of the '80s, we had to endure the Scotch snobs of the late '90s/early '00s.

No worries, Bob -- I won't be combining cigars with anything I drink. I think the chicks with cigars fad has long since passed anyway.

There is one distinct difference between blends and single malts. Almost all blends have grain alcohol in them, whereas rarely, if ever, do the single malts.

So one could argue, you are getting more of a pure scotch in the single malts.
