That and the fact that I cooked baby octopuss tonight, which seemed to fit both descriptions.

OK, so totally random fact. Do you know that an Italian "secret" for making octopuss more tender is to throw a couple of wine corks into the pot? It really works . . .

Bucatini, octopuss, baby brocolli, olive oil, garlic, red pepper, italian parsley, bread crumbs, salt and pepper . . . . nice semillon that is a little sweet to contrast the spice of the red pepper . . . mmmmmmmmm

Actually, I think Katie uh, jumped on it first. Why am I not surprised?

Somehow I think you are a bad man for saying that. I'm not sure, though...

The best calamari (yes I know its squid, not octopus) I've ever had by far, was in Spain.

For once, I can actually say that some seafood here is actually really good. Calamari from the Monterey area (you know -- where Laguna Seca is) is awesome. They get huge calamari, according to what I've been told, in the Pacific Ocean off Southern California. HUGE calimari! I had a calimari burger at Toaties in Pacific Grove (next door to Monterey) a few months ago. Wow -- super good! Bummer we don't get the big shrimp like in the Gulf waters. Ahh . . . only five days away.

Cali coast was once great for Abalone, but was way over-fished.

Too bad.

Also Sand Dabs from there are yummy

Yeah, we did used to have a lot of abalone. They are on a comeback, though. The ban on abalone fishing practices has allowed the population to start thriving again. So maybe give it a few years -- they'll be back. Just not as many (fishing ordinances). Never had a sand dab -- but then, I don't eat a lot of seafood. Just the way I was rasied -- my family never ate fish. Ho-hum. I still love those big shrimp I got in Florida last time. They're great on the bbq grill!
