Okay . . . so he was a Lithuanian Jewish broadway singer . . . I still don't see why that would remind you of him when seeing the black Porsche with green trim?

PS -- so much for being honest. I think it's over-rated.

Dave said to Google the guy, so I did, and that's all I found. I guess you guys got one on me. If someone would rather tell me what you are all talking about instead of teasing me, I'm all ears. Otherwise, carry on. Have fun.

As the picture implies, and the following Wikipedia cut-paste says, Jolson was known among other things for his black-face performances. The car looks to a lot of us like it has black face make-up on.

"Comments about Jolson's "black face" performances and racism
Judging by the standards of the late 20th and early 21st century, in the present time, some may believe that Al Jolson was a racist because of his sometimes performing in "black face" makeup. However, this was most definitely not true. Performing in "black face" was a theatrical convention utilized by many entertainers during the first part of the 20th century and for many years prior, having origins in the tradition of the Minstrel show. It is absolutely true that Al Jolson was the most famous entertainer who sometimes performed in "black face" makeup but during that time, Jolson's "black face" performances were not meant to be insulting to people of African American Heritage. In fact, there were actual African American entertainers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries who also performed in "black face" makeup. Indeed, Jolson had many "fans" who were African American. This is exemplified by the idea that he was the only "white" man permitted into a "black" only night club in Harlem during the 1920's and 30's, and numbered among his close friends many African Americans, including the famed song writer, Eubie Blake

One probable reason why most African Americans in the early part of the 20th century found Jolson's "black face" performances enjoyable was because Jolson, while in "black face" makeup, portrayed a sympathetic and comedic character who longed for the embrace of his mother's arms and the familiarity of his long lost southern home (MY MAMMY lyrics: "...I'm comin'. Sorry that I made you wait. I'm comin'. I hope and pray I'm not too late... Mammy, don't you know me? I'm your little baby... I'd walk a million miles for one of your smiles, my Mammy."). In the first part of the 20th century and in the last part of the 19th century there were many African Americans who had reluctantly left their families and southern homes for the chance of freedom and acceptance in the north. Jolson's performances often caused people in the audience to weep and this included people of African American heritage, perhaps because they were reminded of their own southern homes and the family members left behind, family members they perhaps could not visit because of financial hardship."

edit: I think this is a generational thing. Those of us of a certain age, all know of Al Jolson & black face. What was that movie that used to play on TV all the time? Was it the Al Jolson Story? This was back in the days of black and white TV's. (God I'm old)

Bonni. Seriously. What the hell education is California giving its students if it is not referencing Al Jolson and his blackface performances? I mean, Mammy, Mammy....You've been missing out.
